And is it any good? Dell, Samsung, Acer

I'm looking at them all for the price range of €300-€500. Thinking of a 20" widescreen. Something that's good for colour display (design) and gaming.

Any good advice? thanks

I have the Dell 20" Widescreen and love it, especially the extra inputs. I've got my Powerbook, TV, and PS2 all wired into it. The picture quality is a little off on the TV side, but it's nothing worse than VHS quality and it sure beats having to buy a TV and set it up somewhere in my room. Brand new only $340 from Dell's website.

Currently: 19" ViewSonic PF790
Near future: 24" Dell 2407WFP

In terms of price for performance I think the Dell widescreen lineup is tough to beat. Apple needs to drop their ACD prices and offer better flexibility in terms of movement.

New revision 23" ACD here, however slight pink and backlight bleed. It is not as bad as others have posted, but still a bit disappointing it's not perfect. Should I use a hardware calibrator for the pink? Has anyone done this?

I have read that the calibration does nothing. I dont have the pink cast... or at least I dont think I do.

I have read that it is pretty noticeable. I don't think I have seen a picture of it though. If calibration doesnt fix it I would try for a new one.

I went through 3 23" ACDs, all with some backlight bleed. I don't think it is possible to get a perfect one. When I got my 3rd, it was acceptable but I called Apple up and asked for some retribution. They gave me $90. So I am happy.

I have the Dell 24" widescreen. It is the best purchase i have ever made (beside my Mac Pro, of course).
Second that. It's not hooked up to a Mac Pro, but the 24" is amazing. Mine is the latest revision (A03) and it's absolutely perfect. I'm in love with it.

For a bit cheaper, though, my fiance has two of the 20-inchers, and those area really nice too!

Are you in the States? I bought it at an Apple Store, however it seems and also from you account that it is hard to get a good one. Maybe I can still call up the Apple Store and request a replacement, but I would want to check them out for issues before leaving with the one that looks close to perfect.

2 x Samsung 204B

I have two Samsung 204B monitors.

The Samsung 204B's are $300 US right now. They are 5ms monitors with 1600x1200 resolution. If you decide to do much reading, you can rotate the right one and get a full page at a size that you can easily read. I considered the widescreen monitors but 1050 height is not enough for me. You can't view a full page of text easily at 1050 tall.

I considered one of the 30" monitors but it is very hard to justify one of the large ones (say the 30 inch Dell for $1250 or the Apple for 2k) when you get more resolution this way for $600.

They are excellent game monitors as well.

Good luck all!

I have 2 x 20" Apple Cinema Displays, absolutely love them. Bright, sharp, colourful. Love em to bits.

Just itching for a 30" Cinema Display to go with them... Apple hardware should come with an addiction warning

20" ACD. Amazing screen, I love it. Would be very tempted to get the 23" if they get a built in iSight, although I don't think that will happen.
