I have a wireless keyboard and mouse. Also the ones on the keyboard are un-powered so not good for anything other than an iPod or the Wacom slate. Hard Drives Scanners and printers have to have a powered port.

well actually they are full powered usb 2.0 or they could not charge iPods. Its just it is a hub so they get less power

Never heard of "automatic connect"; that's interesting. Can't buy anything good anymore, eh? :) Seems like everything is built like junk.

Take a look at the info below. See note 2 second from the bottom.

Do you use all those devices at one single time? I have an external HDD, iPod touch, and various flash drives. I just connect and disconnect, which could be annoying, but I don't use all of them at the same time.. Just plug in the ones you need, and unplug when you don't need.

Well to make it simple, I have one External HD for "Time Machine" The second for "Super Duper". The Canon Pro 9000 is used twice a day for an hour or so each time, and the scanner is used very often scanning forms and filling them. My Wacom tablet/mouse is used all day as well as the UPS needs a USB port. My Garmin Edge is one of the ports not used to often, so I have A flash drive plugged in their for my portable docs. So in my office USB devices really get a lot of use. I also sometimes have my DSLR hooked up to the hub for tethered shooting. It is nice composing photos on the 24" iMac as I can really get it accurate.

Thats a long way off as the scanner is a high end Epson and the printer is a Pro photo printer. I just get annoyed that I never had this problem on my PC, but I will never go back to PC again.

What kind of Epson Printer is it? I have an R1800 and it uses firewire 400. Maybe it has a firewire port in the back instead of usb?

I just want to say that my MBP has two USB ports, one of which is blocked when I lock down the laptop, and I have 4 USB devices (2 portable hard drives, printer, iPhone). I just have to swap out depending on what I am using.
I have tried powered USB hubs before, but my hard drives start getting corrupted data whenever I try to write to one while it is plugged into the hub. I would avoid hubs when possible.
My printer is a printer/scanner combo, so I cannot plug it into a network device without loosing the scanning capabilities, but if you don't have a combo, I would recommend doing so.

Powered Hub and Powered Drives and peripherals

Now, now children. I use my nonpowered hub for all my powered devices, because they don't require power from my mac. The other ports are for y iphone, and my faster hard drive. My **professional printer is connected to my unpowered hub, and it works flawlessly, and my card reader for my **professional DSLR is in the usb on my mac. It seems to me that your "professional" peripherals are not very **professional.
