a OpenFirmWare Hack so that you can use Mac OS X directly on custom build ppcs :p

Hi all,

So this isn't a new application alert so much as it is a survey to see what you all feel is currently lacking out there or would like to see in a new application.

My reason for asking is I'm taking a course at school this quarter where we get a few weeks at the end to design any app we want, and would love to get some ideas from you all.

Thanks!

1) An equivalent to MS Money
2) also a Mapping/Atlas app would be nice

Mac Software

I think that you should make a useable USB webcam utility to use with OS X/iChat AV 2.1. I don't have the money to spend to buy an iSight, altho they're awesome :D:D:D

I'm all for an AOL-Y!-MSN-iChat AV/File Sharing chat client. That could even support a USB cam!

Dreamweaver works with OS X. If you think DW is horrid, check out this page built by a student/teach coop! http://usd504.k12.ks.us/oms/default.html

Don't flame me for that, j leave it be. If you hate it, don't say anything. I hate it when people type before they think, no offense, cuz i prolly do that too sometimes.

Batch file renamer tool... Batch file renamer tool... iPhoto renamer...

missing something?

Link me to the best one please.

An iPhoto renamer would be great. I'd like to see an iTunes like interface where photos can be grouped by "genre", renamed and other stuff.

it's alright. :)

i heard panic software was working on a newsgroup app as well.

to be honest with you, i'm not so sure if there are any application ideas left that haven't been done already.

its called Unison and it rocks :)

iTheater

Make an app in which you can easily control your home theater system, or use your mac as a home theater system. In other words, an app that you could control you computer through your tv.

That would be sweet. You could have an Xserve in the basement with movies or music stored on it, and have it hooked up to the tv. Then just go to an imput channel and play a movie. :D

Yeah really...

Mass rename those files from DS_10123129.jpg ---> My Favorite place (or whatever)

There are RF remotes that work with the Mac that will let you do this already.

Macromedia Studio MX? I don't think that works on a Mac....
I had no success finding a suitable Mac Web Page creator.
I need help.

you could try adobe golive, if you use adobe products im sure it is integrated with all the other adobe packages....or just learn html, xhtml, css, etc.. they're really easy to pick up.

Second that. They're really easy to learn. You could learn the basics of html in half an hour. Then go learn css, which is also really simple, and hand-code your pages. It's not that difficult to design your own page, and all you need is a text editor and a browser.

TextEdit in Panther is exactly what you described.

There are 24 programs to rename files in OSX on versiontracker.com alone.

My vote is for a voice conferencing program. Maybe even a hack that allows you to connect multiple audio chats under iChat.

YES, THAT WOULD BE AWESOME. I'd give anything for a good voice conferencing program, or for apple just to hold multiple audio chats, or an audio conference, at the same time. Life would be good. Very good.

Yeah, thats true... I learned HTML from ebay, and now also know javascript, which itself isn't that useful, but makes for pretty effects! :p A webpage maker is never really that necessary... Not to say I don't love them, but it makes more sense often times to get something simple like Taco HTML Editor, which works great as long as you know html.

I'd love to see the following apps for OS X:

1) A really good, modern personal finance app that is compatible with all the online services, banks, and brokerages. I use Quicken 2004 but it only works with SOME online services. SOME is not good enough.

2) A software/hardware combination like ScanSnap (http://www.fcpa.com/products/scanners/scansnap/) which works on PC but not Mac. I have lots of documents I would like to digitize into PDF files and it is a very tedius process with my flatbed scanner. ScanSnap sounds like my perfect solution - IF ONLY THE SOFTWARE RAN ON OS X!

Final Cut Pro 5 with GarageTrackgic (Soundtrack + Garageband + Logic), Livetype II, DVD studio express, and finally...SHAKE DV!!! It would be such a cool app. Shake for the rest of us...one day...
