You drop your iPhone, use it in high ambient temps, and go swimming with it, and so Apple sucks...? Makes sense to me. How will a Pixel survive you better?
Very good points there. And if past use is repeated on a different device, I believe the same would occur. The difference though is the ease of being able to walk into an Apple store and pay the cost for an out of warranty replacement and then go on about your day.

How is it the best when it is missing tons of features than Samsung has on their phones? The cameras image stabilization is a joke on that phone. No expandable memory (people already complaining they are running out). Low quality front camera. I mean come on, get with the times. Doesn't even use WIFI calling with AT&T.
Before I decided on a Pixel I did consider the S7. For me the guaranteed OS updates for 2 years and 3 years of security updates outweighed any feature that Samsung phones have over the Pixel. Sure the S7 has wireless charging but it also has a micro-USB port. Having to be conscious of the orientation of the cable when plugging in the device to charge seems so inconvenient to me coming from iPhones with the lightning connector. (Note: I don't like wireless charging by placing it on a pad as I like to use my phone while it's charging) Also to be fair, your points of no expandable memory and no WiFi calling, the devices the Pixel/Pixel XL replaced (Nexus 5x and 6p) did not offer those either. The Pixel is also not being advertised as working on AT&T.

As @tbayrgs said, everyone has their own set of preferences when choosing a smartphone.

You have your opinion, I have mine. It also doesn't have a stupid curved glass display prone to false touches, ridiculous amounts of bloatware, and inferior software support--how much would you like to wager that the Galaxy S7 never sees Android O, much less Android P? Add to that the included unlimited full resolution photo/video storage in Google Photos and the Google Assistant.

Everyone has their own set of preferences when chosing their smartphone--mine weigh heavily on software experience. The OP may have a different set and place more value on hardware features like waterproof, wireless charging, or expandable memory (I doubt is since he's used an iPhone for 7 years ;))--he'll have to decide that himself. I'm just offering my personal opinion.

The Pixel won't see support after 2 years per model. They already said that.

Good points and I did forget about the wireless charging too. For the price, the Pixel is overpriced for what you get. AT&T is now selling the Pixel. So, it is supported, just no WIFI calling. Also the 15min charge feature of the pixel was already proved wrong. LOL! It actually charges much slower than an S7 Edge.

Correct, the Pixel will have two years of guaranteed Android version updates with three years of security patches. Source: https://support.google.com/nexus/answer/4457705

Interesting, I wasn't aware that AT&T is now selling the Pixel. If that is the case, I would hope that they would eventually get WiFi calling working on it. The Pixel is SIM unlocked whether you purchase it from Verizon, Best Buy or Google. However, it may not support WiFi calling or VoLTE on carriers that don't officially support it. This is where the iPhone has a lot of phones beat, I can go purchase the SIM-free version of the iPhone and use any of the 4 main US carriers with WiFi calling, VoLTE, visual voicemail, etc. Hopefully in the next version of the Pixel, Google will have this same approach, full support on all US carriers.

There were articles that discussed back in November AT&T would be selling them by the EOY, but I don't see it on their site. Hmm.

There's a pixel ad on MR right now that says "Only on Verizon". If true, that's just dumb.

Time, because it rules EVERYTHING!
Hi Internet,

I am just about to switch to a Google Phone (or any suggestions) and wanted to have your opinion on it. I’m switching because it’s time to give another company a chance. It’s my work tool so I need something that works.

I’ve had IPhones for the last 7 years…and I’m on my 6th phone (All IPhones). Why I’ve been so patient, I can’t tell you.

My first phone died (3 or 3gs) 2-3 months before the end of the 3 year contract, which pissed me off a little since the 5 was coming out. I had it for 3 years and technology had evolved, so I went with a 4s I believe or 4gs…anyways that’s beside the point. Contracts meanwhile changed from 3 to 2 years. I had that phone not even 2 years and the battery was lasting only an hour or so. Since I reached the end of the contract they switched it for an IPhone 6. (It was cheaper to switch than change the battery and I get a new phone Whoopi!!)

So then a few months later I was on vacation. Really hot and just got back from a hike, didn’t think about it and jumped in the pool…for 5 seconds. The phone died instantly. Got it replaced right after I came back. Even though it was kind of my fault, I’m starting to think that the technology is far enough to make those things water proof.

A year goes by and for some reason; on a hot summer day my pocket starts to heat up, burning hot. It’s the phone!!!! Didn’t physically burn me but it was dead. Apple agreed to change it. It must have been a known issue. ( BTW, while I was waiting at the apple store, there was about 5-6 people that sat at the same table I did and all had a dead Iphone 5-5s after an update from apple and were all told that they had to buy a replacement, nothing else could be done). Finally 2 weeks later, the phone dropped from about 3 inches off the ceramic floor!!! You know what that means. New screen!!!!

Finally what made my slow brain (I really feel like Lennie in OF Mice and Men «I’m getting a new Iphone right George?» ) decide was going to my phone company and being sold an Iphone 7 because I’m out of contract again and I can upgrade and that I have a hunch that my 3rd Iphone 6 is about to fail since it’s acting a little funny after it was opened up to change the screen. I got the new phone connected it to my Bluetooth had a chat with my friend, got back home talked with a friend that I thought his phone was cheap cause he sounded like he was in a bottle. Even told him to buy an Iphone.

I then got a call from my coworker and he was also talking like he was in a bottle. Wait a minute…it’s me!! The store was closed so went back the next day after calling Apple Care that told me to get it replaced where I bought it! Legit right…wrong. I was told after an hour and a half of waiting, during holiday season, that I had talked for more than 30 minutes ( I was at an incredible 60 minutes, the guys in the store couldn’t believe I talked a whole hour in one day!!). I had to get it fixed at the Apple Store. Too bad chump. Go waste another bunch of hours of your life and get a reconditioned phone when you just bought a brand new one, like a lemming. Ever played that game Lemmings, as long as you saved enough you won the game, well I think that’s Apple’s policy too. Too bad little guy number 2,456,933. Get it right the next time.

So after an Ipod, Iphone 3, 4s, 6, 6, 6, 7, and too many hours lost over that, I’m ready to take a loss and work hard I guess. My brain mostly to get adjusted to the new environment. I would really like your comments, am I an isolated case and those who did it, was is it like getting off crack J

Thanks,

I'd suggest getting the Pixel. Although it's not waterproof and if that's what you want then look at a Samsung Galaxy S7. I take it your not into big phones?

Swimming was one mishaps I and blamed it on myself...even though I think that not making phones waterproof is kind of nonsense with the technology out there. High ambient temp I guess I live in canada. Unless I should only be using a phone in air conditioned areas between a 5 degree temperature zone, I don't see your point. 30c or 86f is hot for me ;)
[doublepost=1481996906][/doublepost]Thanks for all your answers. I will probably make a move sometime soon and keep both as someone suggested. Don't get me wrong, having access to replacement phones right away is worth a lot which apple offers, might have to keep a backup if I switch. From what I understand, google will have a 2-3 days replacement offer with their 129$ care program, but with my line of work I need it right now. I also wanted to see if I had bad luck which seems to be the case. I'll meditate on all of this. Thanks again!

Goodness, given your luck with phones I recommend the HTC 10. http://www.htc.com/us/go/buy-htc-10/

It's got flagship specs that compare very well to those of the IPhone 7 and Samsung Galaxy S7 and currently is going for $499. It comes with a year of free "Uh-oh" protection that covers one incident of water damage or one incident or a broken display. Not bad considering it is not rated to be water resistant! But you should keep your old phone as backup because getting the replacement phone or repaired phone seems to take at least a few days according to accounts I have read by those who used it.

I own and use iPhone 6S Plus, iPhone SE, Samsung S7 Edge and also have had the opportunity to compare it to my husband's iPhone 7 Plus and it compares very well. It is currently my main phone.

It has a sturdy metal construction and an excellent LCD display that compares well to the other phones I've listed. HTC also makes the Pixel, so if you want to get a sense of what the Pixel build quality and feel may be like, you can try the HTC 10. The best part is you get 30 days to evaluate the phone rather than the paltry 14 days most manufacturers offer.

I think it's a great value for the money. HTC support has also been good at pushing updates. I got Nougat within a reasonable amount of time.

Oh I almost forgot to mention the amazing sound quality through wired headphones. It's got a really excellent DAC. It records in stereo audio and has a nice interface to customize camera settings.

The camera is quite good. Very comparable to the iPhone 7 and S7 Edge in that sometimes of the three, I get the best looking pic from the HTC 10. Generally the other two are better overall, but the HTC 10 holds its own well.

Cons are that it is harder to find cases for and that HTC has had financial troubles so support going forward to 2 or 3 years forward is uncertain. You also need to give yourself time to experiment on it and get comfortable learning how to customize it and work in an environment different from iOS. The Samsung babies me a bit more and is kind of its own flavor of walled garden. With the HTC 10, I'm more on my own figuring things out.

I forgot to mention I use the unlocked version on AT&T and enjoy very good call quality so far.

Darn, also forgot to mention the battery life on an IPhone 7 plus is far superior to that of any Android device we own. If you're used to relying on excellent battery life, be aware Android has processes that can run amok and drain your battery at times. You'll need to learn how to babysit your phone's battery usage.
