One of each.

Mini 4 - Wifi 64gb.
This is my travel and work companion. It goes to the office daily in my laptop bag and is the one I take when travelling - purely for the portability.

Pro 9.7 Wifi 32gb.
My home device that I use the most. Great combination of screen size and portability to take from room to room and I do most of my surfing on it as I find it the ideal size.

Pro 12.9 Wifi 32gb.
My other home device. I bought one purely to try out the bigger size and I couldn't bring myself to sell it on. This is my go to device for media consumption and content creation or photo editing. This is also my go to device for heavy organisation work when I don't want to use a Mac as the screen size is excellent. I did all our wedding planning on this and it was a great device for managing spreadsheets and other details around this but the weight does mean this was done primarily sitting at a desk.

I have a 9.7 iPad 4, iPad 2, and 7.9 iPad Mini 1. Mini and iPad 2 are almost unbearable to use, whereas my iPad 4 blows them out of the water, but that's mainly because the 4 is running iOS 6.

Well I got the 2017 9.7" at the weekend so vote changed to multiple.

Really happy with it. Unsure whether to keep my 12.9 I've had for one year and one week.

Till now I've never been a multiple iPad owner so unsure how to split the usage. Tips? ;)

What made you pick up a 9.7 as that is likely going to dictate your usage cases?

Sometimes the 12.9 is a bit unwieldy. If I went out and occupied myself in coffee shops while wife shops I'd avoid taking it. With the Smart Keyboard and the laptop style zip pouch I have it's a hefty thing. I posted in another thread, I think the 9.7 is the perfect size. On the fence whether to keep the 12.9. I think this iPad is perfect for me. The only 'downgrade' is the speakers. When your use to 4 all the others will seem mono.

As sorry, I see you got the new 2017 9.7 and not the existing Pro 9.7. The change in speaker configuration would be noticeable for sure. Do you use the Pencil at all? That would be another real reason to keep the 12.9 around.

I use the 9.7 Pro and it's great for what it is.

If I needed more laptop-like functionality and Apple were to give it to us, I'd take the 12.9 any day.

Quoting from the other thread as it explains it all. Took my time with it so worth a repost. Copy and paste. :)

I'm going to annoy every 'is the 2017 iPad any good' thread creators and posters from this point on.

In the house we have my 12.9" iPad Pro. For how long I dunno... we have my wife's 9.7" iPad Pro. Now I got today... yup the 2017 iPad. I like the 'it's an iPad not tied to version number' appeal. I wanted a 9.7 after a year with the 12.9.

Comparison. Your a fussy s*** if the air gap bothers you. It feels good to type on it's creating this post.

Reflection. It's a bit more reflective but I set it up in a coffee shop near a window and did not cry. I forgot about it after I got to installing and setting up. It was a sunny day in Scotland.

Clearness of screen. No difference imo. It's the same resolution. Not sure what's going on with the poster with eye strain. By that logic all pre Air 2 must have hurt as air gap.

Battery. 80% out the box, 59% now. I have hardly left it alone. It's a good un.

Cheaper it may be but with all 3 here it's 100% iPad. The true 'upgrade' is 4 speakers. That's an ace feature. Keyboard is only something I use on occasion on my 12.9 and I could live without it. Pen? Forget about it for me.

Go forth and purchase. Makes me question my 12.9's price and I may sell as 9.7 is the Goldilocks of iPads. This too big, this too small, this... just right.

I have an iPad mini 2, which is my on-the-road computer (well, that and my iPhone).

I use it for:

* reading (web, books)
* writing (Notes, Scrivener, Editorial)
* email and Slack
* tunnelling into my Linux VPS over SSH
* YouTube

I used to keep my iCloud library on it, but ran out of space (32GB model).

I love it but the storage isn't enough anymore and I drool every time I look at the laminated, anti-glare screen on my wife's Air2.

I'm thinking of upgrading and am torn between the iPad mini 4 (128GB) or the 9.7 Pro (128GB).

I do love the portability of the mini but the larger size and the pro features do intrigue me as I do more 'work' on the thing. I'm finding it a really tough decision.

Update: 9.7 iPP

If a 12.9 comes out in two weeks I'll swap. If not, I will see what my usage is and if I decide to get the 12.9 a few months after release, this will be mom's iPad 2 replacement.

I still think the 9.7 is the perfect size. My 12.9 is for sale on a well known auction site.

I have a 9.7 pro and a mini 2. Pro is my main device at home, does everything I need and has pretty much replaced a pc. I rarely use a pc now. The min is my on-the-go device when I want to have more than just my phone with me. I'd prefer just having a mini, since I love the form factor, but it can't do everything the pro can, and is starting to show it's age. My plan is to upgrade the mini whenever it gets updated next. My perfect iPad would be the pro features in a mini form factor.

I own a iPad mini 2 128Gb cell. I do not own a phone and use freetone to allow me to make calls, text non-apple devices, and have voicemail. The screen is bigger than the phones, but is still pocketable in men's pants, except for jeans. It also fits in most jacket pockets. Ipad's are often cheaper than phones too, especially ipad minis.

Data only plans are cheaper than voice only plans for phones, and way cheaper than voice and data plans also. My plan is 4/8/16 or $32 per month depending on data usage. $32 gives me up to 5 gigs, but if I barely use my data, I only pay $4.

Work decided to buy me an iPad Air 2 64 which I quite enjoy. The laminated screen is great and it is quite light and thin. It is wifi only and I only use it when at work. I do wish it was an iPad pro 9.7 as I am very interested in using the pencil.

I would love to see an updated ipad mini especially with pencil support. It must have a laminated display so that I can see the screen more easily outside than with my mini 2. Ipad mini with pro features would be very similar to the classic spiral notepad, at least the ones that I used to use. Every size iPad should be able to use the pencil.

By the way, the way to hold a ipad mini to your ear is to hold it upside down with the speaker side up near your ear, and the power button end near your mouth.

I would love to have an iPad 12.9 to use at home for photo/video editing etc., but they are too costly for me at this time.

  • 12.9" x1
  • 9.7" x3 (Pro, Air 2, Air)
  • 7.9" x3 (mini 4, Mini 2 x2)
My 9.7" Pro sees the most use, followed by the 12.9", though it mostly stays home these days.
