Using both a galaxy s4 and moto x. Currently on my S4. It's amazing how a custom rom can make such a difference in this phone. Still a Touchwiz rom because I have to use Safestrap but there is no lag anywhere. Device is a new machine all together. I really like the Moto X but the camera is beyond terrible and the screen on the S4 is much better.

Blackberry Torch 9810 (touchscreen + trackpad + physical keyboard) is my daily driver for calls (call quality on ATT is excellent), email (no contest), surfing web with the WebKit browser and occasional games. Built like a miniature tank, charges full every two days, and I don't need 4G LTE on the latest phones. Plus, it fits into my jeans front pocket with the Incipio feather case on - unlike the Samsung Galaxy S4 or larger devices.

Moto X camera looks pretty decent to me.

Still using the G2. Can't see myself upgrading this year either. Screen size and battery life are perfect and I'd got 4.4 so I have nothing to complain about Of wise.

Same here, still amazed with this device.

Maybe the G3 will force me to upgrade.

still using my 3GS which I got on launch. This trusty beast is still running factory fresh (as all Apple products do) and the battery is showing no signs of dying. I will use it until the battery dies then upgrade to whatever. I barely use my phone as a smart phone (only calls and text messaging) so it doesn't matter for me.

If I went android I would stay away from Samsung, probably LG or Sony. I don't really like the look of android though. My dad has an S3 and I hate navigating through it and the physical design of the phone is horrid compared to my 3GS. Curious about the Lumia. See what happens in 2 or so years.

Look at the HTC One. that has excellent design.

ooo yep, that is a really nice phone, admired that since pre release pics. I'd probably get this phone in a year or so because by then it will be reasonably priced. By that I mean, why are phones the same price as a consumer PC with 100th of the power hahaha. Seems so strange to me. Even a PS4 is half the price of a smart phone. What gives?

Erm, the cost of of the typical phone is around 300 dollars and these companies do want to make a profit.

I know this is the Alternatives forum, but I'm still surprised Android is winning. Maybe iPhone folks just ignore this forum? :D:confused:

I hope there's a good phone coming this year so I can finally upgrade from my SGS3.

Haven't seen anything worth it for a very long time. I see some sort of big negative point for almost every phone:

- SGS4: the software experience was basically the same as my SGS3, so why buy it? I'd like something better and faster than TouchWiz. Besides, most people said it had terrible lag. I also didn't want another Samsung plastic phone.

- HTC M7: negative points were the camera and battery (2300 vs 2100 on my SGS3. So little improvement).

- Moto X: only recently available in Europe. Too late. Might just wait for X2. Also no considerable improvement in hardware compared to my SGS3: still 720P AMOLED display (and I want IPS), bad camera and battery just 2200 vs 2100 on the SGS3. A joke, although I love it has stock Android.

- G2: the best one I've seen so far, but has overheating issues. When playing with it for 30 minutes doing LIGHT stuff I got a warning and the brightness went down automatically. The overheating issue is well known in XDA.

- Sony Z and Z1: had terrible displays and are too big. Z2 is too big too but perfect in everything else. I don't want a huge phone, so Note 3 was also out of the equation.

- SGS5: I wanted at least 3GB RAM, considering the Note 3 has it and how badly optimised TouchWiz is. I don't want another Galaxy phone. Knox is also a problem. Hate the USB port cover due to the water resistant deal (also hate it on the Z2, and it's the reason I don't want a water resistant phone).

- M8: bad camera and too big.

- Nexus 5: bought it but returned it. Had bad battery life, microphone problems and very weak vibration motor.

So hard to find a good well balanced phone... I don't know how you guys do it :D:D

The thing is I don't change phones that often, and I don't want too. I want to keep next phone for many years. I would keep my SGS3 if it weren't for insufficient battery life and occasional lag due to TouchWiz.

I believe you are in Europe Sensamic, but the GPE S5 (cut off the usb door if possible) would probably fit your bill the best. It will be plastic of course, but no Knox.

LTE Bands will likely be a problem though :-/

Right now I'm surviving thanks to an AOSP 4.4.2 custom rom on my SGS3 :D:D Thanks to this I can hang onto the phone for a little longer.

It's something very important for my next phone too. I'd like to flash an AOSP rom if I get bored in the future.

Yeah a Google Edition device would be the perfect device for me. Problem is trying to get one. They're really expensive (+600$), at least the high end ones.

I would lose warranty (a big negative for me. Imagine paying 600$ for a phone that arrives bad or with a defect and I can't exchange it or make use of the warranty).

Cutting off the USB door would be a problem when I want to sell the phone in the future. Who would buy from me a SGS5 without it's waterproofing? :D

Also, like you say, LTE bands could be a problem.

So Google Edition devices aren't an option unless Google decides to make them available in Europe.

$300 phone + $600 Shipping. That doesn't sound right :p

300 to manufacture plus the profit they want to make. For example a 700 dollar phone makes a profit of 400 dollars if the manufacturing cost is 300 plus 3-400 dollar shipping for us. Phones are never sold with no profits in mind.

The galaxy note 3, of course. It's so good, I may not upgrade to the note 4, seriously;)

Was thinking the same when. I got my Note 3. Could be the first one I actually keep a full contract term rather than. Selling and buy a new off contract (sold my contract S4 for this)
