Turned background refresh off on everything. Literally didnt notice a difference besides the battery draining faster when i had it on for a while

i turn off the damn thing. it makes no difference in usage but a lot energy saver.

These are turned off for me:

Compass calibration (Who uses the compass?)
Emergency SOS (I get scared)
HomeKit (No smarthome devices)
iAds
Safari & Spotlight Suggestions (Don't use safari, and I find the spotlight suggestions obtrusive (personal preference))

I have everything off under Product Improvement -- Not sure if any of these are useful?

You need compass calibration for more than the compass app. Maps and frequent locations and directions all use it. App app that needs to show you how to get some place (Yelp, Wazu, etc) all use that. Leave it on. You will rarely see an arrow by it anyway.

While some apps might need it for something (mostly to let's say figure out the direction you are facing, for example), it's generally not needed for regular use of maps or navigation or other apps that show you how to get somewhere.

I leave them all on expect for a few apps that somehow abuse background updating and noticeably drain the battery. Of course I'm not worried about battery life on my plus either.
