Hey Fellow iPad fans,

I was just wandering at what time tomorrow that the iPad will be up for pre-order?

Thanks,

PAce

You know, if you don't preorder within the first 6 hours the will sell out ?!?

Apple's Shareholder meeting is today (Thursday) so opening up pre-orders the day of the meeting isn't out of the question.

The rumor is perfectly plausable, and in my post I never debunked it. I was just informing the OP that it was that a "rumor" and nothing had been writen in stone.

I hope its today or tomorrow when you can start pre-ordering. I'm all set to pre-order a 64 GB wifi version, and will do so the very second I'm allowed.

I think Apple would want to start the pre-order as soon as possible since they don't want the hype surrounding the ipad to diminish too much... although there certainly has been some diminishing the last couple weeks.

Oh, and if you want to know when the pre-ordering starts right away, just sign up on Apple.com to be emailed when pre-ordering is available.

I don't know how quick those Apple notifications will be. Once I got a notification that some product (forget which now) is "available now" close to a month after its release. Maybe they will send these notices first, but I certainly wouldn't hold my breath.

Anyway, I guess the rumor sites cashed in their checks on the Feb 25th rumors which were probably baseless and we get to wait around for who knows how long (presumably no more than another 30 days since that will be around Steve Jobs' deadline for availability).

Kind of reminds me of Nostradamus predictions, where the end of the world is conveniently delayed by a year or two every so often going as far back as decades now as to create the illusion that the date picked is anything more than BS.

My guess is, given that everyone is watching this prelaunch like a hawk, that we'll hear of FCC approval a day or two at least before pre-orders are available, unless Apple has some webmaster with his finger on the "update" or "upload" button (on some nuclear-footbal type computer) just waiting for the word so that they can take orders the minute its approved.

Can Apple even start production on these things until after FCC Approval? Would we know if they have already received FCC Approval? Is 4 weeks long enough after FCC Approval for them to crank out enough units to actually have them available or in store in late March?

I'm frustrated by the inaccuracy of the rumor about preorders today. I am ready to do so and stop having to watch for it for the next month, and so I don't have to take a vacation day to camp out at an Apple store on launch day.

No one is forcing you to buy an iPad, or buy one the moment it comes out. Therefore, you don't HAVE to take a vacation day to buy an iPad on launch day, preorders notwithstanding. You are really overstating the importance of the iPad to your wellbeing. An iPad sold 3 months from launch will be every bit as good (or bad, depending on one's point of view) as one sold on launch day. In fact, it might even have some subtle improvements if you wait a bit. Sometimes, Apple launches a product, only to discover that buyers begin loudly complaining about component quality issues (the infamous screen issue on Touch's come to mind).

Thank you for the lecture. I think I'll determine for myself what I need to do about my desire to have one on launch day, how important it is to me, and how long I'm willing to wait for it.

To be fair - you wrote "I'm frustrated by the inaccuracy of the rumor about preorders today. I am ready to do so and stop having to watch for it for the next month, and so I don't have to take a vacation day to camp out at an Apple store on launch day."

Whether it becomes available for pre-order today or next week or next month - how long after its announced do you really think the news will hit you/your mailbox, etc. Or are you one of those people that keeps refreshing the Apple/MR websites over and over to see if the pre-orders have gone live?

It's not like you have to pre-order the SECOND or even the day the iPad becomes available to get it in time for launch day.

No one can or should tell you what to get frustrated over. I think the poster who "lectured" you was trying to intimate that there are perhaps better uses of your time and energy.

It will be available when it's available. I'd hate to think how people would react if Apple announced that for whatever reason, the iPad wi-fi wouldn't be available until summer....

I wasn't addressing "desire". I was addressing the way you deemed an iPad a "need" on day one. A "need" so dramatic that you are contemplating taking a vacation day. ok, then if it's that important, TAKE A VACATION DAY and be happy. :) But no one is forcing you to stand in line on day one.

I probably check a couple times a day, mainly because I don't want to be unaware that preorders are being taken for a few days and then risk a shortage at launch which often happens with new tech that comes out.

I'm also not frustrated at macrumors, because they merely linked the story from the source (and even pointed out that they had been wrong on several occasions). And just because I'm frustrated doesn't mean I'm ticked off or anything... just frustrated.

And I'm also so so very tired of the inevitable response that I got (the one I called the lecture) on internet forums. No matter what the topic or what the forum, you can almost count on someone posting a response to anything in the manner of telling you why you shouldn't feel a certain way, think a certain way, or behave a certain way. It gets tiresome.

Edit: I also just got to the end of a thread I started on another forum where I was posting information and updates about the iPad just for people that might be interested.... and then of course had to contend with 10 people telling me why I shouldn't like the iPad at all. Also about how it must be my imagination that my netbook stinks on video playback because theirs was super awesome. Anyway... you get the idea.
