I probably check a couple times a day, mainly because I don't want to be unaware that preorders are being taken for a few days and then risk a shortage at launch which often happens with new tech that comes out.

I'm also not frustrated at macrumors, because they merely linked the story from the source (and even pointed out that they had been wrong on several occasions). And just because I'm frustrated doesn't mean I'm ticked off or anything... just frustrated.

And I'm also so so very tired of the inevitable response that I got (the one I called the lecture) on internet forums. No matter what the topic or what the forum, you can almost count on someone posting a response to anything in the manner of telling you why you shouldn't feel a certain way, think a certain way, or behave a certain way. It gets tiresome.

It's also tiresome when someone repeatedly misses the point. :)

The point is you are judging somebody else on how they feel, choose to spend their time or vent their frustrations. Try looking in the mirror before judging others.

I think you're the one who is repeatedly missing the point. Try giving your snarky lecture to the thousands of people who line up for a midnight movie (Twilight or Harry Potter anyone?) or new game release, or tickets to a big concert. "It's still going to be the same movie a week from now." Pbbt. And I wonder how you judged and berated the people who camped out for weeks for the PS3/Xbox 360, or the new Star Wars movie. (The difference at least in all those cases is there was a true release date to plan around.)

Everyone has a different patience threshold and tolerance for things they get excited about. Personally I'm never going to camp overnight for something, but I might consider taking a day off to get in line for the iPad like I did for the iPhone. People like msduncan and I (amongst many others I'd wager) simply like to have appropriate information so we can plan around it. I don't think that's too big an expectation to have for something like this which is supposedly releasing in about a month.

no, that's not the case. I was ONLY addressing the issue of how the OP seemed to indicate he is virtually compelled, or required to use vacation time on day one. I didn't address how much we wants one, which is irrelevant to me. No one is going to hold a gun to his head to insure that he is there on day one, taking a vacation day. That's his CHOICE. He made it seem as it's a NECESSITY.

It's called hyperbole, it's a figure of speech (ie, "I'm DYING for a cup of coffee!"), and taking it literally make you seem... I dunno, like you are being difficult just to be difficult.

No, I think the poster made it clear (at least to me) that it is ESSENTIAL that he gets his hands on an iPad on day one. That's not hyperbole. I wasn't trying to make this a protracted discussion. He said his piece, I responded to it, and now it's gotten a life of it's own. Let's agree to disagree on the point of how necessary it is for him to get an iPad on day one and move on, ok?? I'm willing, if you are.

I know. i have two clocks in the house that sync with Boulder, via radio signals. :)

My G-Shock does that too :)

Anyway i now thought of all the threads that are going to open after people get their iPads about YELLOW SCREENS OF DEATH!
My biggest fear actually.

We now return to our regularly scheduled thread...

I wonder how long before launch till we get to play with an iPad in an Apple store?

I'm not sure if you need FCC approval to build the device, probably just sell it. There may be a way to get an FCC ID which has to be stamped on the product before its actually approved (I won't pretend to know how the process works, but I imagine the FCC ID on the back of the product may be the same as the application #, for example).

If they do need approval before even building it, then we are probably looking at not getting our hands on these until mid to late April for even the WiFi models unless we become one of the lucky few to grab the first batch. I doubt they'll be able to manufacture enough to fill all pre-orders in a 3-4 week - maybe less depending on when they get approval - time Window.

I wonder if Apple will lose sales as would-be buyers psych themselves out of buying it by reading the rumor and tech sites and learning more and more about the iPad's flaws and draw backs where as if they pre-ordered it they would have that sense of ownership already.

First of all i bet there are more Apple buyers that do not read Apple related rumors sites. So that's not an issue, even Apple retail store employees are clueless. Apple is taking their time, they will not rush anything out like you see before everything is approved and settled. Those iPads will be out of stock so quickly even if they will be sold in the next 5 months.. IMO

One of the greatest toughest watches yes, will last you more then 10 years after being smashed and more.. Yeah mine is a Solar/Atomic.

ah. cool!

Greg, are you personally WORRIED about Apples sales figures on the iPad? Are you going to be distressed if someone doesn't buy an iPad, regardless of their reasons, and will you more distressed if you knew that such decision to not buy was the result of negative press? Me? I don't care if Apple sells 15 million a year. Makes no difference to me how many they sell. All that matters to me is what I think of the iPad for my own needs. It doesn't make the grade, with me. But I don't CARE about Apples sales figures.

How does me saying "I wonder if..." translate to "I am worried"... ?

no problem. you sounded VERY CONCERNED. :) It was the way that you phrased it. If my inference is incorrect, here is your opportunity to enlighten me as to the extent of your concern.

If everyone agrees 100% of the time, there's nothing to discuss. Welcome to the internet! Discussion is borne from disagreement and/or misunderstanding. Sometimes, two parties can find common ground if they talk it out. Other times, like congress, the two dems and republicans can't agree that even a broken clock is still correct twice a day.

If you had your way, all threads would be empty.

Re: seeing them in stores. FCC approval notwithstanding, the issue is finalizing whichever OS the device will ship with. There's no way Apple puts demo models on display in stores until then.

Don't recall offhand when in March the usual iPhone OS update show has happened in the past, but I would expect the day after that to be the earliest possible day we could see demo units in stores.

I wonder how long before launch till we get to play with an iPad in an Apple store?

Before launch? Not likely. I can't remember any new Apple product where there was a demo unit in the store before the product was in-store for sale. In fact, most new Apple products don't make it to the demo table for a day or more. Instead, there is one or two floating demos that a designated employee keeps and can be played with on request.

Can Apple even start production on these things until after FCC Approval? Would we know if they have already received FCC Approval? Is 4 weeks long enough after FCC Approval for them to crank out enough units to actually have them available or in store in late March?

I'm frustrated by the inaccuracy of the rumor about preorders today. I am ready to do so and stop having to watch for it for the next month, and so I don't have to take a vacation day to camp out at an Apple store on launch day.

No one has answered this question yet? I would like to know the same thing....Can they even mass produce the product? How does the FCC work

OK. Now that is over.

Can anyone shed some light on the FCC stuff? Or are we dreaming that the release will be today, tomorrow, etc.

?

I'm really hoping to buy mine from Amazon on day one. Anyone want to predict how likely it is that Amazon will take pre-orders and ship them upon release?

Amazon does not even list anything on the iPad, so im guessing they will not take pre-orders. I know sometimes they will have a product that will say "coming soon" Apple most likely will sell the iPad first.
