What to do with 1st Gen AirPods?

If you ordered the new 2nd Gen AirPods, what are your plans with your 1st Gen AirPods?

I wish Apple offered a trade-in value on AirPods towards store credit or something, like they do with iPhones, iPads and Macs...Now I don't know what to do with my 1st gen AirPods. They still have great battery life, but I went ahead and ordered the 2nd gen AirPods yesterday with the wireless charging and engraving.

Guess I can clean them up and sell them...

What does everyone else plan to do?

This is just my preference, but I wouldn’t buy ‘used’ AirPods that have been in someone else’s years previously, rather they were cleaned or not. I find it rather grotesque.

I suspect most first GEN AirPods are likely near towards the end of their life anyways, so they’re probably not worth much in terms of even offering substantial battery life. And considering now the second generation is available, that affects the first GEN resale value even more. I think it’s one of those products you just have to realize they’re isn’t a whole lot of resale value for this particular device.

Looking at the demographic right now online, some used AirPods are selling for as little as $30 depending on the condition and overall battery life. For that amount of money, I don’t think it’s even worth the trouble of trying to Sell personally. But again, it depends how old the AirPods are, is there AppleCare/warranty attached, condition, those are all things that you have to factor for resale for a product like this. But in terms of wanting to put an object in my ear that was in somebody else’s, that’s a hard pass.

I agree about the 'used' part, but I'm a very clean and OCD person so they aren't in bad condition at all. As long as I get some kind of $ for them, even $50, I wouldn't care. JW what everyone else plans to do with their's.

For me, I plan on keeping my first GEN AirPods, the battery life is actually still substantial, and I think I could have some secondary use for them paired with another iOS device. But in that respect, I also don’t really sell many used products online, simply just because the amount of people that try to fraudulently take advantage of honest sellers.

I’m going to throw mine in the gym bag for good. Current battery life is 1.5 hours per charge perfect for my 1 hour or so workouts. The new ones will be my work and travel pair.

I'm passing mine down to my husband. Originally purchased in December 2017 and the battery life has held up pretty well considering how much I use them. I still get almost two hours of talk time and four to five hours of listening time. At least they won't go to waste! I do feel like I have to charge the case more frequently than I used, but that's just anecdotal evidence.
 
Sold mine to CEX on Saturday. I got two thirds of my investnent back so can’t complain too much. Miss them already but Get my new ones tomorrow

My 12 yr old took over mine a long time ago. Got new ones engraved so i can tell them apart..she's sneaky. lol

I can almost see your point, but cutlery cleanliness hygiene practises are typically better than that of your average AirPod user, who can’t dip the pods in detergent after every use. :D
 
Well mine are new - bought them about 6 weeks ago. The thing is I’m honestly not using them nearly like I thought I would - I’ve put them in my ears maybe 3 times. It would probably be smart for me to sell them, but at this point IDK if I could get a fair amount for them.

I thought I’d use them a ton.
 
I gave them to my mother, as everything I replace. She is very happy having great tech over the years, she doesn’t mind if it’s used or not the last tech.

Sure, and it would be very easy to wipe off the AirPods with alcohol on a cotton ball. When I was a kid, doctors took our temperature with a physical thermometer stuck in our mouths. Every patient used the same thermometer. All they did was wipe it off between uses.

Same for me, already in my bag I’ll use them in the gym until they die .... new ones for work
 
Can you swap one out and get 2 pair shoes of AirPods, with one 1st gen one 2nd gen for 2 people
