I liked iOS 9 for stability, performance, design of UI, slide to unlock, notifications centre with feature sort by app and split-screen, PiP, iOS 11 for features, especially on iPad.
But stability is for me important and I had problems with iOS 11 so I vote for iOS 9.
Performance wise it was iOS 10, especially in animations from beginning compared to iOS 9.

Feature wise and stability wise iOS 11 for me. It has worked wonderfully. iOS 8 and 9 had some nice features but the whole proactive screen before we got widget looked like crap on Swedish iPhones. We had nothing filling the screen so it was just a waste of space. iOS 7 was full of bugs (but I liked the new look). iOS 10 was good as well, maybe a little bit better memory management than iOS 11. But overall my vote goes to 11.

iOS 8 was the most stable, and had great battery life on my devices.

I regret upgrading my iPad Mini 2 from iOS 8 to iOS 9, as it made it unusable for about 6 months. After a few updates, it got better, but Safari is still laggy, the battery life is crap, and the Mini always acts like it doesn't have enough RAM.

On both my Mini and my 6s Plus, iOS 9 was riddled with bugs.

I now have iOS 10 on the mini, which was a slight improvement, but I would jump at the chance of downgrading to iOS 8 again if I could.

iOS 10 for performance, 8 for added features, 11 for overall total features of course.

iOS 10 brought great features without performance issues like iOS11 - also maintained the ability to keep using many legacy apps that won't migrate to iOS11

I say iOS 10 for me. I appreciate the features, battery life and performance. Especially iOS 10.3.3 since I have kept my SE on it.

iOS 11 runs fantastically on my X and IPP 10.5”. It’s not bad on my 6s as well. It’s just not as smoother as the former devices.

For me it was the iPhone 5 running iOS 6. I sold mine but luckily I found a new in box sealed iPhone 5 on eBay that I just purchased to add to my collection. This phone is so quick and seamless on it's original firmware. :) But I do think that iOS 10 actually ended up being a really stable and good OS. 11 has overall been a mess so far and I still hate that home button delay they introduced on the 7 and 8 phones with the solid state home button.

iOS 6 because it was visually pleasing and easy on the eyes. I have an iPod Touch and iPad Mini still on this version
Technically you can’t choose iOS 6. The question is best OS since iOS 7.

I'd vote for iOS 8. Animations on iOS 7 were too slow, iOS 9 had too much input blocking, iOS 10 two-page control centre was a disaster, iOS 11 notification centre was a disaster as well.
Though iOS 8 started off rough, it actually brought great user experience since iOS 7 era (am an iOS user since iOS 4).

I love the iOS 9 music app. Best music app ever. I can even LOVE a song in lock screen. Look at the abomination in iOS 11. No LOVE from lock screen or pretty much anywhere. Weird animations. Large fonts. I mean, I don’t hate it but I don’t like it.

However, I am using watchOS 4 so I have no choice but to stick with iOS 11. I wish I do not need to update to iOS 12 at all.

If I look back into my iOS history, I remember my iPhone 5 on iOS 6 (6.1.3) was fantastic, followed by 8.1.4. Had great battery life in those versions and performance. Performance never really dropped, only battery drained through iOS 9 and 10.
On the iPhone X, 11.1.2 was fantastic. There on its a downhill story from 11.2 has crippled the battery a bit, incorrect battery data most of the time.
RAM management was never an issue until 11, hopefully it improves with updates.

Rly unpopular opinion, but iOS 9 because it was a very refined version of iOS 8 which was refined for iOS 7. Multitasking and Picture in Picture really helped too. iOS 10 is the runner-up due to Memories and Face Detection in the photos app but it removed slide to unlock in favour for widgets, I miss slide to unlock ;_;

iOS 10 has been the best in performance, stability and battery life. I would have picked iOS 11 if it wasnt for the stability and battery life problems.

I miss ios9 music app also. It was beautiful and I enjoyed the navigation very much. The new music app I hate so much

iOS 10 was annoying at launch. The visual tweaks throughout the OS were radical enough to trigger aversion to change. They got rid of slide to unlock. The NC didn’t remember if you were on the widgets screen or notifications or allow grouping them by app. The CC was split into two panes. Once you got used to it though it was fine.

My experience with iOS 11 is like the same thing except it’s also noticeably worse in stability and performance. iOS 10 was much more enjoyable for me so far.

iOS 10 is the iOS 6 post iOS 7. No iOS since 6 has been as stable and bug free as 10. I'm still using it on my iPhone 6s and I also kept it on my moms devices (SE and Air 2). 9 was the worst for older devices and it seems like 11 is an all around bad egg for everybody. They really dropped the ball with 11.
