Personally I'd settle very happily for a 9.7 inch pro with 4GB of ram and the latest CPU and GPU, I'm not interested in loosing home buttons/bezels.
Is that really the only thing that you want from the new iPad Pro? I've got an iPad Air 2 and there is more than enough performance for everyday tasks. Right now, you won't see any difference if Apple adds another 2GB to the 9.7 iPad Pro. 12.9 iPad Pro only has 4GB because it has a much higher resolution screen.

Yep thats the only thing I really want. The Pro 9.7 is fine in every other area. I buy iPads to last me a LONG time (My main iPad is an iPad 2 purchased in 2011, and I use an Air 2 for work), so ok performance now isn't going to cut it for me now. I also disagree as the Air 2 and Pro 9.7 start stuttering with multitasking. The Pro 12.9 can keep more tabs open. 2GB really should have been made standard in 2013, and it wasn't till 2014 and now that is 3 years ago. Theres no chance of me buying something that is not going to last the distance I need. 3D Touch and 2nd gen Touch ID would be good but not essential, where as I absolutely don't want to loose the physical home button, headphone jack and bezels.

Yeah I think they may do that because of pricing, but not update the 9.7". They've kept older iPad models in the past so it would make sense.

I agree with that, although I would like a larger screen that isn't as big as the 12.9". I really don't like onscreen buttons and the reduced bezels isn't good for a tablet of that size, unless they improve on their palm rejection (even then, it's hard to get used to placing your hands over part of the screen).

I personally think they should spec bump the 9.7 if they keep it (mainly because I don't want the 10.5).

I'm not trying to be dismissive on anyone's thoughts or beliefs with rumors. But rumors are not concrete evidence of anything and they have no validity some times.

For example, it was heavily rumored last year, the Second Generation Apple Watch was going to launch during WWDC 2016. Ming Kuo, BGR and multiple "Analysts" all stated this would happen.....They were wrong.

Rumors are what someone wants to make of something and I respect that. But I don't believe we will see an new iPad release during this time frame. Maybe a smart speaker, but even that I question. The Developers conference has altered quite a bit these last five years and it's not hardware based as it once was, primarily because how the conference has expanded in numbers/activities.

I see this iPad launching September through November.

While this is true, i myself thought the same thing but then Ming-Chi-Kuo has come out and said that the 10.5" iPad will be at WWDC, altho nothing is 100% accurate until Apple themselves stand up on stage Ming Chi-Kuo is one of the most reliable and accurate. Add to the mix that Mark Gurman from Bloomberg is saying Apple will be updating their MacBook Pro's and the 12" MacBook at WWDC (granted it is only reported to be a small spec update) and it makes for a very interesting WWDC.

Wouldn't surprise me if both were kept around as then Apple can charge a premium for the 10.5 inch Pro cause they like doing that these days.

Personally I'd settle very happily for a 9.7 inch pro with 4GB of ram and the latest CPU and GPU, I'm not interested in loosing home buttons/bezels.
Yah sorry but the 9.7 inch Pro if kept as a budget $499 iPad would be the same as now but don't expect any more refreshes to it, that thing is going the way of the Mid 2012 MacBook Pro

Check out the front page. More on the 10.5".
ITS HAPPENING :D:p

Yeah but with new and new iOS iterations keep coming in future 2GB RAM is not going to be enough ! We all know that.

The 9.7 inch iPad Pro should have been 4GB to begin with. The more ram the better, the longer iOS support and usability you get out of a device. IMHO, RAM is almost always the factor that cuts off iOS support for devices, it is rarely the CPU, though sometimes the GPU.

Ming Kuo is noteable for being an insider with suppliers and has been accurate in past times. But he has also been wrong many times. Undoubtedly this new iPad is coming, It's just a matter of when. I still heavily question WWDC. But agreed, WWDC will be interesting.

Sadly I think 9.7inch Pro users are going to get the screws with only having 2gb of ram. Unless we are all wrong and 2gb would remain the sorta optimal amount Apple wants, we all know with iOS 11 1Gb and 64bit will be the minimum but in iOS 9 we already had a 2gb min required feature, I feel like iOS 11 we could see some 4gb min requirements for certain features.

It's those supply chains that he has been talking about, but also there is now a thread on the front page of this site about it. I'm 50/50 now about whether we will see the iPad but with Mark German saying that there will be updates to the MacBook Pro's and 12" MacBook even tho they will only be spec bumps, it does give a chance. Maybe with them missing an April or March event they don't want to go the until September without announcing anything.

I read the article. Mac updates, Smart Speaker and iPad? I don't know about all of these releases/updates. Perhaps one of the three. I'm all for product releases, as I have interest in the speaker and iPad, but I still question Kuo and the other analysts. We will know soon.

I do get your point and I'm also skeptics that they will announce all of those. Mark Gurmen is very very accurate tho but we will see.

You know about as much as everyone else in here.

However, I do agree the alleged 10.5 iPad will launch around/near the iPhone, perhaps be available after the iPhone 8.
I'm in agreement with you. I don't think Apple will want to reveal anything that might be similar to the iPhone 8 when releasing an iPad without bezels (or whatever it turns out to be). It would spoil the "surprise". I'd rather they release the iPhone 8 first and then a newly designed iPad. Perhaps with curved glass on the edges and finally rid of the chamfered style edges. An iPad with the form factor of an iPhone 7 would be great in both 12.9 and 10.5 (and why not 7.9) sized screens.

My views are more in line in with what Daring Fireball stated about the release:

"However, Apple could wait until October to launch the 10.5-inch iPad, in order to avoid spoiling the the design of the much-rumored "iPhone 8" with an edge-to-edge OLED display, which is expected to be announced in September."

I also think Apple will announce it during September and have it release later as they did with the 12.9 Pro.

On a side note, Apple has been Announcing certain products (Airpods, Nike Watch, iPad 12.9 Pro) and launching them at a later date. I'm not saying that has any pertinence here, but it's been somewhat of a trend.

That's possible with the iPad Pro but I do think if Mark Gurmen is saying the MacBook Pro and 12" MacBook are going to be updated at WWDC (all be it a small spec update) then that is more to be believed. I believe that more than the iPad Pro announcement.

The least thing they could do is a refresh of the 12.9 with the technology that is already in the 9.7 pro: latest screen coatings and truetone display. Maybe a new processor if available with lesser energy consumption.

If you believe the production ramp-up news from Ming Chi-Kuo and Digitimes, then it's hard to believe a September launch.

The cost of holding back the 10.5" iPad Pro for September means holding back sales for an entire quarter (June-August). Using Kuo's projected numbers, this represents 3 million units, or 7% of annual iPad sales.

Does Tim Cook really feel a narrow bezel is worth that much? I don't think so.

My prediction IPad Line Up 2017:

Ipad 9.7 (2017), IPad Pro 2 10.5 ,IPad Pro 2 12.9 , IPad Pro 1 12.9 (?), IPad Mini 4 7.9 inch (?)

The 9.7 IPad Pro will be removed from iPad line up , that's no reason to put 2 iPads with 9.7 inch after the new IPad 10.5 launch .

Will Apple remove the 12.9 iPad Pro first gen from the line up ?
Will IPad mini 4 be removed too?
And also, is the iPad mini dead ??

My guess is that they will either replace the 9.7-inch iPad Pro for a 10.5-inch model, or keep both. Apple is probably trying to do anything it can at this point to help iPad sales, which have been shrinking year after year.

Apple low key confirmed it for us with those wallpapers guys, unless you can show me another time when they arbitrarily released a interim iOS update with new iPad specific wallpapers outside of a major update for iOS. Also those new wallpapers only work for 12.9 iPad Pro with would coincide with the rumor that the 10.5 inch iPad Pro would have the 12.9inch resolution because why would Apple just randomly give the 12.9 inch Pro users 3 new wallpapers in the third bug fix release of the third point update in iOS 10.

To expect a new product based on three wallpapers is far fetched.

Everyone knows it. Just like 128, 256, 512 Mb and 1 GB were all once more than enough for iOS and now are no longer, the same will happen to 2Gb of ram.

Macs were sold until recently with 4GB of RAM which is still enough to run the OS. There is absolutely no indicator that this will continue to ever expand dramatically from a requirements perspective. Sure at some stage in a couple of years iOS might require 2 GB minimum, but it very well might not.

9.7 iPad, 10.5 iPad Pro, 12.9 iPad Pro, no Mini. iOS 11 will bring the iPad back from near death. MBP with Kaby Lake and AMD Ryzen GPU. :apple:
