I am waiting to buy an iMac until the refresh. Since I have never been through one of these, I just wonder what it will be like.

I have no Apple store near me so it would most likely be the Saturday AFTER the refresh that I could get to one. What is store stock like after one of these things? Would I do better online at Apple.com?

I have been through 3 iPhone launches (skipped 3Gs), and I know they can kill the Apple.com store. Are the refreshes similar?

Thanks.

iMac refreshes are NOTHING like iPhone launches. iPhone launches are hectic and crazy.

iMac refreshes are silent. The site updates and that's it. There's enough to go around.

What are you talking about, there is usually large crowds of windows converts, pushing and screaming, and that's the just women. ;)

this isn't guaranteed, but the pattern seems to be that the refreshes are on Tuesdays.

correct me if im wrong, but they'll have 24 hour shipping as soon as the site updates -- so if you have to wait til saturday, ordering online would be much faster.

just my 2 cents. I'll be ordering online, but I have to anyway because I plan to upgrade it with some of the build to order options.

ill just go and pick a 27 incher up in the store, i doubt they will be sold out or anything like that, this is $1500+ machine ;) Not cheap like the 200 iphone that everyone can afford on the go u kno..

They always announce on a Tuesday, but around here they don't appear in the stores for a day or two.

"Refresh Day" will include hair pulling, joy, then probably disappointment and whining from 90% of the community(probably bc of graphics options). I'll buy one regardless...

lol im buying one regardless too.

One question to u guys, are u guys gonna wait a week or 2 to see if there are any problems with the iMacs as in Hardware problems or u'll just buy one? Im still not sure..

It'll be scary if the imacs still got the yellow tint issue or some other kind of issue..

Refresh day for desktops are nothing special. Apple will do its usual smoke and mirrors routine, but compared to the mass chaos of their phones & pads, it's a snooze fest.

That is the ONE AND ONLY issue I am worried about. The darn yellowing. It's absolutely unacceptable.

How bad is this yellow tinting?

i bought my first mac last year (Macbook Pro 13") and fell in love, so ive decided to get myself an iMac (not sure what size screen yet)

Well I intend to buy it when they ship with lion pre-installed .. so probably julyish .... i am just like that ..i don't want to install it myself ... plus any hardware/software(lion) issues that arise would have been sorted by then

Curious reasoning about the software. If you wait for Lion to be released, why don't you expect issues to occur in Lion?

i dont think that reasoning is so much better than buying an imac now and installing Lion later.

the iMacs will have problems once lion comes out anyway, it happens with every os update and then apple fixes it with software updates.

Besides, the yellow tint issue, the smokey screens people get with their 2010 iMacs dont occur when they first buy it, it occurs later on through the first year or so( other than the yellow tint, the yellow tint is there the second u fire up the imac) ,

So waiting for the imac to ship with lion wont save you from having any HARDWARE PROBLEMs but if it makes u feel better than buy it with lion preinstalled.

But yea id be REALLY Mad if the yellow tint will be there

Apple has had quite some time to fix the yellowing issue. If they fail to correct it during a refresh, that will be pretty poor on their part.

My mid-2007 iMac has the yellowing "issue" and it seems it still exists. What makes you think that they will all of the sudden be on top of it this year?

I am not directing any anger towards you, if that is how it sounds. I am just very upset with it. I love the iMac. Can't wait to see what they have in store for the refresh... But my screen has looked like **** within a year of purchasing it and it saddens me to know that they still have not done anything about it.

I am planning on getting an imac too for work but waiting for the refresh. Cant wait.

Its a shame that the Mac updates are seen as insignificant.
It's probably because they have new features and stuff to announce for iPhone and iPad each year. Whereas each Mac update is usually pretty predictable (faster cpu, more memory, more hard disk space). They don't need to throw a party for that.

Its a shame that the Mac updates are seen as insignificant.

mainly its because what was mentioned all macs are expensive 999 minimum and any real user is more like at least 1400+ not too many average consumers can afford it or see a need for it. but they can afford a 200 or 300 phone. to us on these boards who use macs a lot the updates are huge but we are all probably pretty spread out and have jobs so we cant camp out for imac refreshes haha.

i bet the fifth avenue apple store gets busy on mac refresh days even if it is just people checking out the new models.

Just a heads up. I know when the current model came out, local stores did not have the i7 model in stock for a couple of weeks.
