I think considering the next iPhone will comeback to the glass sandwich design, Apple could recycle its design language into the mMP, with something like this (thermaltake view 27)

LL

But on opaque glass (sorry for those loving the pink tubes)

Glass is horrible to keep clean

For the non-colonials, "Pepto Bismol" is an American liquid over-the-counter medicine to counter vomiting and diarrhea. Definitely not a color with good associations.

And if Apple blows it with the mMP, customers will be able to buy this at the Apple store:

I'm starting to think Apple made a big mistake by using the word modular.

That double tube design emphasized access to parts inside. One might say that is about ease of "upgrades" or being more about customizing. The latter word is really the key. Can we customize our purchases afterwards. That was the great part of the older MPs. RAM, Drives, Video cards, other* types of cards....OUR choice.

The Quicksilver has always been a favorite of mine, next would be the MDD. The Aluminum G5/Mac Pro style would defiantly be a welcome sight though.

I don't have the artistic chops to create a rendering of what I'm thinking but maybe someone could, based on what I'm thinking. The basic assumption is that most everyone was pretty happy with the cMP design, especially
the 2009/2010 editions with a separate backplane and CPU tray. So let's start with that:
First, get rid of the handles and feet; they're easily bent and cause the welds to pop when hit too hard.
Next, lets get rid of the upper tray for the optical drives and the power supply.
After that let's get rid of the hard drive carriers as we'll need that space for.....
Resurrect the 1 kw power supply from the quad core G5 (Apple numbers 820-1592 661-3738) and mount it where the hard drive carriers were. I don't have the dimensions handy but I think it's close to the height of a 3.5' HDD so we should still be able to use all of the PCI slots.
Update the chip sets for todays CPUs and ports like USB-C, and if there's room for an m2 ssd lets put it in from of the power supply; if not we'll just use a PCI slot or come up with another design for an SSD(s).
Seems like it wouldn't take over a year to get a design like this out the door and would probably make a lot of user happy.
