Due to Comcast charging extra for each TV in a home, I have an unconnected screen in my workout room. It only gets used to run yoga tapes. With new Apple TV on order, I finally realized how to get value out of my original hockey puck, which is of course to connect up said workout room TV.

Same here. Now we run a cycle of devices, with a round robin of PS4, ATV3 and the new ATV4.

For now my 3rd gen. will go in the bedroom. I wish Apple will open up app store for the 3rd gen. I think the 3rd gen has enough hardware and software to handle some of the apps they'll out there. If the TVos and the new ATV is a hit at home when the old gen will be given away and be replaced by the newer model.

I still have my Apple TV2. Not sure what I'll do with it but I won't get rid of it. Maybe I'll put my old 32" TV in the kitchen and use the ATV2 with it.

My ATV3 is now part of a travel kit - a small case containing the ATV, pocket router, HDMI cable and Ethernet cable. Comes in handy in hotels that don't block HDMI ports (which I'm finding more of in the past year).

Same as everybody, move it to secondary TVs and when that's exhausted, I hear there is a computer inside, am sure I can do something with it, or even save the cute box for one of my electronics project.

Recently I placed a BT receiver inside an Apple Airport Station, gen3 "flying UFO" always liked the unusual shape of that device.

I just dusted off my ATV2 (jailbroken) and did the following:

1. installed dnsmasq (may be installed by default upon jailbreak) then got an ad blocking list
2. installed lighttpd and wrote an IPTV appleTV app (in php, outputs XML after reading a playlist) then added it using the "add site" button.
3. changed the Freeview plus (Australia hbbtv) DNS entry to point to the ATV and wrote my own launcher. (Why? Regional Australia can only load catchup apps from two broadcasters, my launcher allows me to load all catchup apps from all broadcasters) - written in php and running in lighttpd.
4. updated my modem to use the ATV as the primary DNS server so now I'm ad free on all devices.
5. found enjoyment in hacking on something again instead of doing the same old crap every day.

A jailbroken ATV2 is far from dead or obsolete. In fact, if anyone doesn't want theirs, I'll take it.
