Yes this thread has been done before, but now that many of us already have done this once... What will you do with your old one?

I gave my old iPhone to my dad, along with my old jawbone. He loves it. I think that when the new iPhone comes out that he will be getting my 3gs.

That leaves my old 2g iPhone to become an iPod touch for my mom. She has made it clear she does not want to pay the data for it. And her iPod nano (3rd gen) Is getting very old and finicky. (Randomly skips songs, turns off on its own, ect ect.)

I would sell the iPhone 3gs, Mine is in perfect condition, has had a case on it the whole time. But honestly how much would it sell for? I'm sure Ebay will be flooded with 3G's and 3Gs's on the launch day of the new phone. Can I really expect more than $200 out of this old phone? (3gs)

Also another weird thing about me, I have kept every single cellphone I have ever owned. (Minus the two that were stolen, yeah I learned my lesson.) Its kinda cool lining up all 8 of the phone and seeing the progression over time. I would feel bad if I sold one of them lol. Unless its expected to go for a good amount of $$.

---------------------------------------

I expect more hand-me-down iphones this go around. Because there are the crazies whom have a 3gs and will get the new one.

People with the 3g will want multi tasking, and have a 2 year old 3g now, they are probably feeling the urge to buy a new one.

And for the people whom still have the Original, that thing is just getting old now. I have a feeling that the new phone may be the one to push the original owners to buy a new one. Mostly because the 2g will lack 4.0

So to many of you whom will be juggling 3 or even 4 old iPhones. Do you still have them? gave them to others in your family? Sold them? use them as iPod touches? and since you probably already have done away with your old iPhone once, will you do the same this time? (ie: if you sold it before, will you again?)

if i can afford a new phone its very likely that i will sell the old one for cheap and make the new one my work horse. not sure how much i can get for a 3G 8gig though

I can sum up this thread by this simple response.

The majority of people who will be upgrading to a new iPhone will sell their old one.

A few may hold on to it for various reasons, say a developer wants to keep his old as a test bed.

A few others may give or donate their phone to family/friends/charity.

Seeing that the current iPhone 3gs (32gb) is going for atleast $450 used and locked to AT&T.

Is it fair to assume the iPhone 3GS will go for about $300-250 when the new one is out? (again used in good condition.) ?

Those of you whom sold your 3g what did you get out of it?
Onebay I usually get around $400 for my old iPhones. After yountake eBay fees it's around $375. More tham enough to get new iPhone.

I will be giving my 3G to my younger brother once I get the new iPhone (or if it isn't what I want/expect possibly new android phone).
Plus since me and my brother are doing some game development on the iPhone, it would be nice to keep the 3G around for testing:D

I'll be keeping mine. My 2G lasted me over two years (late 2007 - early 2010), and I can only imagine that my 3GS will last me at least that long. The 2G still works BTW - gave it to my dad to use as an iPod.

I just ordered a 32gb unlocked phone from honk kong. I plan on keeping that for 2 years. My current 16gb 3gs is going to my wife and the 3g 8gb she uses is going on eBay before the new iPhone comes out. I expect $300-$350 with accessories.

Seems a bit high for a 8gb 3g. (but who am I to say)

Also my dad wants to sell my old 2g (currently his) on ebay so he can get a new iphone also. But 2g 4gb models are only going for $125 atm, but hey that's still good moola!

I'll continue to use my 3GS for a year and then I'll change, or maybe just get the next one. I got the 3GS recently.

My 3G will be relegated to international sims and skype use while travelling. It will also replace my itouch as my workout device. If it's lost or damaged I'll still have my 4G to come home to.

Blend it (they blend quite well apparently), then eat it.

I would sell it, but the top left of the screen is cracked so I don't think I'd get much for it.

My wife will be getting my old 3G when I upgrade. I keep trying to convince her to get a new one as well but she says she's perfectly happy with my used one. Ah well, I guess we can't all be tech geeks...

I'll put it in its box next to my first gen which is also in its box (although hopefully this one won't be drowned like my first gen :p)

I will put my 3g back into its box, along side the 2g I just bought with its box, and I will buy a 3Gs for extremely cheap from someone who wants a new iPhone!! I love collecting!

My Wife and I will be selling ours mine probably on ebay and hers to my coworker and buying the new one, surprisingly it took very little convincing. :D

hmmmm

think I will wait see what Apple releases vs rumor then decide! ;) oh then I have to wait for the 4.0 jb info to be released! because I will still be jb and I have to wait for the JB apps to support 4.0 like last year. AT&T says I can renew in Nov I am think that will be about right lol! then if all is good sell 3gs and buy 4G hopefully pocket a few bucks!

I'll be keeping my 2G forever since it's been good to me for 2+ years and it's been working flawlessy ever since I unboxed it. Also, it's still in mint condition. That's worth to me more than a few bucks. Also, chances are the hypothetical new owner won't treat it as good as I did, which is another reason not to sell it.

2G forever :apple: .

So do the hardware limitations not bother you?
