Sounds rather obvious but the iPhone working on any sim card.

Yup, there will always be locked phones, so there will always be people who want to unlock their phones (unless all carriers in the US decided to not have lock anymore)...

An update that unlocks the phone and grants third party apps. Sorry, but AT&T won't carry my Canadian phone #, and I have zero interest in waiting for Rogers to pick it up nor in having to buy another iPhone (which will probably be significantly more expensive than in the US and require a minimum 3 year contract to use on a terrible data plan given that is the way they usually do things, here's hoping they don't) to use it with them when they do.
