What Would You Do With 3.5 Billion?

3.5 Billion? Geez . . . First and foremost I would send my parents into early retirement, finally being able to completely switch them over to Mac :) . Secondly, I'd buy all of my friends a MacBook Pros. Then I'd buy other things for myself, like a PowerMac, BMW, House. Finally, I'd put the rest into investments, live off of interest :D.

Nothing. That's what I would do. At least for a while.

After a year or so, I would start looking for investment opportunities to make $3.5B into $4B :D

Purchase every McLaren F1 ever made, and offer nearly free drives and rides at each racetrack they raced at around the world.

Or...

Purchase a large % of apple stock to gain access to SJ and the rest of the board. Enjoy the parties and custom gold plated Powerbooks - ack! MacBook Pros.

Or...

Erect my own space station. Offer trips to and fro via Rutans SpaceShipOne. Party like its 1999.

Yeah.

Or... :p ;)

With 3.5B i would buy about 500-1000 acres, build the house that i have designed(ruffly). And furnish it with every thing i could ever want. Then, with all that 500-1000 i would build a race track that i would rent it out to MotoGP teams, and F1 teams if they wanted. Then i would build a 10 car garage. In this garage would go:

1. Ferrari F-40
2. Ferrari 355 GTS
3. Lamborghini Diablo SV
4. Ariel atom with the honda VTEC
5. Kawasaki 6R
6. Honda 1000RR
7. Aston Martin DB9
8. Mclaren F1 LM
9. Chevy 2500HD Diesel Crew Cab w/ 20-ft trailer
10. 18' Alweld jon boat with a 250HP Mercury Veraudo Jet.

Then buy a
THEN, Pay off all the bills for my family. Buy a shop and make it into the best 4-wheeler, motorcycle, boat store/garage in missouri. Hire a few friends to work in the shop. Then i would invest the rest of the money i had left over.

So in light of the recent Pixar/Disney deal putting in Steve 3.5 Billion of Disney Shares

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/175188/

What would you do if you had these shares?

What do you think Steve will end up doing with them?

D
Let's see. If he sold the shares outright, he would have a tax liability. Not sure what it would be at that level, but for discussion's sake, let's say 50%

That would leave him 1.75 billion in cash.

Being very conservative, he should be able to earn 5% per year in money instruments.

That would give him about 7.2 million per month (or 86.4 million per year) while maintaining his original cash position.

Not sure what I would do with all that money. Probably look to putting it to use doing something for family and others vice buying "things" for myself.

...although, with those kind of funds, I would be able to afford an AH-1F Cobra that I could cruise around in. They are such a sweet machine to fly! :D

I'd keep $2 mill for myself and my family and use the rest in a micro-credit fund for farmers and entrepreneurs in development countries.

I'd donate a ton of it to my church. They're trying to build a new sanctuary, so they could use the money.

I'd do all the bills stuff for family and friends.

I'd buy off my friends at about 2mil/year + expenses (house, cars, etc). Then they'd never have to work again, and would be free to do whatever, whenever.

I'd go back to college and learn a lot about a lot... computer animation, music, photography.

I don't know what else I'd do... just some thoughts.

finally someone that actually gives a **** and doesn't appear to be a selfish prick like everyone else posting in this thread.... thank you!

Thanks. It's just that everyone's suggestions makes sense given millions of dollars, but not billions. Havings billions of dollars is a license to noticeably change the world. Not everything about the world, but at least one pertinent issue.

On a side note, why sell the shares and then reinvest them? Besides the capital gains tax hit, why not just leave it in Disney, and use the share power to improve the company, and directly grow your investment?

Hmm, that makes me wonder what this world will look like, say in 30-50 years, when all of the technology billionaires die of old age. I'm sure they'll pass on a lot of their wealth to their children, but most likely they'll also dump a tonne of it into charity.

I sure wouldn't be here reading these posts!

I on the other hand would be reading from my new computer room:

...and as you might notice that is from the Heil Sound website, because I would indeed have Bob Heil personally design my theatre.

I would buy 3.5 billion lottery tickets.

Seriously, I would probably give most of it away, and make my family and friends' lives better, along with donating some to our hospital, other charitable causes, etc. I would improve as many lives as I could.

After all, how much money does one really need? Life isn't about money.

I'd also pay to completely resurface the Nordschleife, then design/build a track, which will take inspiration for certain corners and sequences from elements of Rhode Island roads. WITH potholes! :D
