So iPhone 14 Pro has a lot going for it, but what would get you excited about iPhone 15 Pro that would make you consider upgrading?

Reasons to Upgrade for Me if they include It in 15 Pro
10x Optical Zoom using periscope/telescoping/folding lens technology that is already in the S20. That coupled with the 48MP camera seem to be a true killer combo. (not too out of the realm of possibility: https://www.macrumors.com/2022/04/14/apple-periscope-lens-supplier-2023-iphones/)

Reasons That Don't Matter to Me if they Include It in 15 Pro
Battery Life - already top notch
Camera (sans extra optical zoom) - this upgrades every year
RAM - Seems already maxed out with the 14 Pro already, anything more won't be noticable
iOS Updates - It's all user interface, shouldn't be anything special

Things I might hope for in the max model:
- Higher typical screen brightness
- Vapor chamber cooling pipe
- Lighter material (i.e. titanium)
- USB-c connector

iphone 15 needs some aesthetic differences than the 14, 13, and 12. Early today, I had 14 pro max in my preorder cart for 9/16 pickup but decided not to buy it. Going to keep my 12 pro max for another year, although I want more battery life and 120hz screen.

4k Action Mode (current version tops out at 2.8k)
Significantly improved telephoto camera (e.g., upping it to 48MP, increasing optical zoom to 5x+, etc.)
60fps HDR Cinematic Mode in 4K that’s reliable (current version tends to have too much of a halo)

All of the above available in a Pro (not Pro Max) sized phone.

Bonuses and likely farther out than iPhone 15
- Restore “Capture outside the frame” option from earlier iOS releases
- Use AI to create a super-resolution image, merging together simultaneous captures from 2+ cameras (e.g., allowing you to capture images from both the 0.5x camera and main camera at the same time to create one seamless image).
- Record in Spatial Audio

+ 10x optical zoom (as you said)
+ lighter device (I'm a 13 mini owner and just can't make the jump to 14 Pro with how much heavier they are)
+ Much smaller pill / Under-screen Face-ID or Touch-ID
+ USB-C (not a big deal, but nice)

Apple is mostly predictable about this stuff. (The Island thing is cool and unexpected!) Add superlatives to this year's features. "improved macro video recording", "Smart HDR 5", "improved satellite connectivity"

I'm sure the 48MP thing is coming to another camera, and better zooming.
WiFi 6E (I don't see a benefit, but I also don't see a benefit in 1TB of storage on a phone so who am I to judge?!)
I bet Dynamic Island will be "improved" somehow.
8K video recording? (Then the following year that will also be "improved" somehow.)
2nd gen photonic engine.
Maybe USB-C?

A larger MAIN sensor or 2TB. Usb-c is irrelevant for my needs, as I never plug it in (wirelessly charge).

I’ve upgraded every year since I got the iPhone 3G but I’m sitting this one out because I’m very happy with everything on my 13 pro except the weight. The pros get heavier every year. The only things that could get me to upgrade to the 15 would be either the 15 pro loses weight or the 15 gains promotion. The stainless steel on the pro just doesn’t make sense anymore. Titanium or some fancy named “pro” aluminum would be much better. There’s no reason the 14 pro should weigh more than the 14 plus.

I upgrade every year since 4S. I upgraded today. I will upgrade next year. I also lease a new car/suv every 3 years.
Whatever change the 15 will bring I'm sure I'll like.

Every iPhone I've ever owned has been flawless - no problems whatsoever. That, and the relatively subtle upgrades not being "killer feature" enough to make me bite, has kept me from jumping to the very next model. Closes I have come is going from the 11PM to the 13PM, and that was only because 5G service became prevalent enough to justify the bump. My wife snatched up my 11PM before I could blink and put her 7 back in it's box for a spare.

I'd definitely like to see Apple move to a new design language. This is the 3rd year of the iPhone 12 style (which wasn't all that different from the iPhone 10-11). There's only so much you can do with a glass rectangle but I'm excited to see the next evolution. In addition to that:

- USB-C for sure!

- Under display Face ID to allow a much smaller hole punch for camera (might make the whole "Dynamic Island" feature better too).

- Periscope camera. 5X zoom at least

- 3nm A17
