im pretty sure the "other" is the firmware and maybe a little bit of email, voicemails, text etc.
mostly the firmware though.

Well, I can confirm the voicemail part. I had 295.6 MB of 'other.' Then I emptied my voice-mail trash (3 messages) and now I have 295.4 MB of 'other!'

Whoo!

My "other" keeps creeping up. I just cleaned all my email. Deleted camera roll pics, cleared out voicemail (1) and it didn't move. I restored my phone when 2.1 came out. The big giant block of orange other dropped and i was happy. Now it's creeping up. I don't get it. I only have the 8G and i have to watch memory. I did notice when i added a podcast the "other" would go up. I had that under control...yet now i have less podcasts then a couple weeks ago and it's still going up.

how are you getting that post stamp saying your posting from your phone?

He's getting that from using the Mobile Version of MacRumors forums... don't confuse that with "iPhone Friendly". To get the mobile MacRumors you must go to https://forums.macrumors.com/wap/index.php

Yes, it is WAP and yes, it works on the iPhone. Done, next.

Maybe it's cache files? Such as Safari's cache and all other cache files that change depending on what you do on the iPhone. The iPhone downloads data, where do you think it puts it?

If you think it's cache files and logs, empty out the Safari cache, history & cookies, empty the trash in Mail, Reset Warnings in iTunes and empty the crash log directory, then reboot.

What the hells the point of using a WAP/mobile version of the site on your iphone. The reason we all bought Iphones is so we can use the normal versions of sites, not wap/mobile versions.

I don't think it is the OS because when I connect mine it's capacity is like 14 something, not 16 gig. Wouldn't it be 16 gig if the 'other' was the OS? I was under the impression that the capacity was lower because it took into account the OS.

Are flash drives exact in size? I mean... hard drives are smaller when formated, does this mean the same for flash drives?

For me, it's speed, especially when using EDGE.

"We all" don't feel to the need to wait 20+ seconds for a full HTML page to render when checking MacRumors from a phone.

Oh, ya i usually never use the site on EDGE, since i only use this site when im bored in class during a lecture so i use the uni's Wi-fi.

Drive manufacturers typically consider a megabyte to equal 1,000 bits.
Operating systems consider a megabyte to equal 1,204 bits.

So if a manufacturer sells a 16GB drive, they're almost always selling a drive that has 16,000,000 bits on it.

An OS would see that drive as 15.625GB. To it, a 16GB drive would have 16,777,216 bits on it (not 16,000,000).

That's BEFORE it's formatted!!

Wow i dont get something here!
I just went through all my phone deleting notes, pictures from camera roll, long text conversations,Safari history/cache/cookies, and even some calendar dates i put in. And then i turned my phone off and on then plugged it in agian, and it went up like 3 more MB. WTF is going on here.

i found the bad one but i cant delete it i dont get the option on rightclick and when i use -> move to folder then there is no data like this :(
