I loved my SE. My wife uses mine now that I upgraded to the XS Max. I will say the Max is much better than the SE. Better battery life, much better camera, faster, even maybe prettier. The SE seems so small now, it would be hard to go back to a phone that sized.

Wow that’s one hell of a jump in screen size!
[doublepost=1560072919][/doublepost]I get the love for the SE for some people. I have it as a work phone but there’s no way I could go back to that size on my main phone. Not even sure how I managed to get by with it on a daily basis back in the day. The keyboard is so small. When I make calls on it I feel like I’m going to crush the thing.

No matter how much I try, I can't understand some people's obsession with this phone...but each to their own.

You understand, but it doesn’t fit your viewpoint. In the world of large smart phones dominating, Apple was one of the only manufacturers to offer a 4 inch iPhone whenever else had abandoned those display sizes. So by offering a 4 inch iPhone, expanded the demographic for those who were not interested in ‘Plus’ size iPhone sizes, so when Apple discontinued the SE, it’s a clear example it was always meant to be a limited phone offered in the first place. The obsession wasn’t because it was an ‘Apple product’, the obsession was because not everyone wants a phone as big as they are today.

Sometimes I think I’d love to go back to a smaller phone, but I’m so used to using my phone as a camera, and getting some really good pictures with it, that I can’t imagine not having that on me at all times. Luckily, with a Loopy case on my XR, I rarely have times where I can’t safely use it one-handed.

iPhone's 7, 7 Plus, 8, 8 Plus, X, XS, and XS Max. Those are spec wise better than a small 6s. Now that the smart ass in me is out of the way, I still really like that form factor, I miss my 5 and the way if felt in the hand.

So how long do you think the SE will be supported? I’m toying with getting an SE instead of the new iPod touch for my grandson that is mainly wanting something with a camera.

So the SE has a better camera, but the iPod touch has a newer processor.

128gb SE for $150 (used but exc condition with 97% battery life) or 32gb touch for $199?

I know this is OT, but which would you pick? (FYI, don’t really need the phone to function as a phone - he’s only 8).

Personally I would go with the iPod because I believe he could still accidentally dial 911 with an SE, even without cell service. Plus a cell phone does give off SOME radiation that an 8-year doesn’t need.

Reading these threads is like going to a Ford Forum and seeing all the F-250/F-350 owners belittle the Focus ST folks for having such a tiny little toy. “Yeah sure our truck is harder to maneuver and can’t fit in some parking lots but it’s BIG. And everyone knows BIGGER is better. Plus no one is making your tiny little sedans/hatches anymore so there!”

Oh Wait, that doesn’t happen... it’s only in iPhone forums.

The SE is great. I don't have one, but I use a 5c as a "security phone" (third-world country, blah, you know the deal. I use it when I'm not home with a prepaid SIM card), and, even though neither performance nor battery life or features are comparable, I feel that the ergonomics are great. It's really comfortable to carry and use, and it's a great device overall.
It's on iOS 9 (wasn't updated by me), so performance could be better, but even though it was heavily used throughout its lifetime, battery life is decent. I'm getting 5-6 hours of usage, which is enough for me.
Anyway, point is that, in my honest opinion, the only thing that matters is if you're happy with the device. I feel like new phones lose their appeal if you like the one you have.
It's a comfortable phone, it suits your needs. That's all that matters. Enjoy it!

Good analogy, and you are probably correct, it doesn't happen.

I am not sure why people act like that on an iPhone forum, although this particular thread isn't as bad as many others that I have seen on the forum.

The comments stating that some people might have issues adjusting to a smaller phone after using a larger one is understand able. As someone that went form a 6s Plus to and SE, there was certain things I needed to adjust to.

But, comments I see all the time staying the SE is a toy or for children is just silly. There was one member on the forum that would post comments on just about every SE thread stating that the fans of SE must have tiny hands. Based off of the members name, I am pretty sure he was just using the SE threads as an opportunity to compensate for a small appendage of theirs.

So how long do you think the SE will be supported?
No one knows for sure, but this same question was asked in a few threads a year ago and I said probably iOS 14 or 15.

Maybe iOS 13 might be the final one, or maybe it might go past iOS 15. No one really knows.

It is great Apple gives us all choice, more choice that any other phone maker.
Yeah, it is nice, but since Apple discontinued the SE, those choices are diminishing.

Hopefully Apple will consider making a smaller phone in a future for the people that would rather not have phablet sized and priced phone.

Sometimes things just do not go your way.

Everyone has their idea of ideal size, and since people come in different sizes (and with different visual acuity), I certainly don't have issues with someone who appreciates something smaller or larger than I find to be "just right" (hint: bigger than an SE, smaller than a Max).

It really comes down to business/marketing choices. The first order of business is business. Often, that means users on extreme ends of the market segment continuum tend to get the short end, especially when a company has a preference to having fewer models, rather than more.

[Warning: Mixed string of pop culture references to follow] It's really not personal. It's business. The love we may feel for Apple does not guarantee we'll get exactly the affection we dream of in return (although it helps to be in the big, fat middle of the bell-shaped curve). When we happen to be at the ends of that curve, it's not that we're unworthy of love as individuals, but that there just may not be enough others like us. We can't always get what we want, but if we try some time we might find we get what we need.

It appears that, starting with September, the SE will be compatible with iOS 13 and, therefore, will be among "everything compatible with iOS 13."

Short answer: everything compatible with iOS 13.

Because starting with September, time will be running out for SE.

Terrific variety of responses. My only qualm would be the believe there may one day be a lack of availability on the SE. They will always be plentiful.

I suspect the A9 (2 GB) should be adequately supported through at least iOS 14 being the last version, I don’t see iOS 15 for the A9. Theoretically, that’s still three more years of soft updates, which is plenty sufficient. But I wouldn’t be asking ‘how long the support would be’, I would be asking ‘how does the SE perform based on each iOS update’. Those are two things that are mutually exclusive.
