So far, this is my option. I have the Nexus now and will probably get the next Nexus if it the specs are significantly better. It would be a nice bonus if the fit and finish was more luxurious as well.

Historically, the Nexus specs don't get bumped very much. In this regard, it's a shame they follow Apple. The specs will probably be nearly identical, if not, slightly better than the S3. That's my prediction.

I'm hoping not only is the design more premium, but they handle the launch better. I think this is vital. It needs to be fully unlocked, no carrier exclusivity, on the Google Play store, and available in multiple storage sizes (maybe offer two or more colors too). And if they can do all this while keeping the price point competitive, that'd be a better launch.

I'm finally fed up with the incremental updates to the iPhone... i have had every version through the 4, but I've just gotten bored with it.

I'm getting a galaxy s3 on monday.

If the specs are the same as the S3, then that is fine with me as the Nexus is already quite far behind by this point.

I would love it if HTC could be the manufacture of the new Nexus device. The new HTC One X seems to do everything right where Samsung went wrong (great fit and finish, battery life, call quality, and camera). An HTC Nexus would be a no brainer if they could work together and would surely be a monumental phone.

We are going to be seeing a lot of this. The S3 is an awesome phone, but it does not run iOS. It does not do everything for you. Be prepared to learn Android. There are tons of people to assist you if you ask. Don't be like these other (insert bad comment here) that buy the phone, expect it to run just like iOS, then come on here and rant about how complex and hard Android is and that the apps aren't the same (therefore they are 'crap'), without even citing a single example.

There is so much more you can do with an S3, that the iPhone can only dream of. First thing is get yourself at minimum a 32gb micro sd card (one with a high speed rating). Don't bother with a case or screen cover. Replace the battery cover instead, with something that has texture. Put the original someplace safe. When you get the phone first thing to do is download a launcher from the Play Store like Nova Prime or Apex. It will make you experience with the home screen, apps and making folders feel more ios-like. And remember to always go to settings or use the menu button if you feel stuck. Enjoy.

I was thinking about going with S2 or S3.. But I am really drawn to the new iPhone black look. I'll be sticking with apple for this next round.

The original Nexus was HTC, no?

My question though, is this - wouldn't it make the most sense for Motorola to start making the Nexus devices? They're basically Google's indirect hardware provider now so you'd think Google would insist that the "developer" device be straight from them.

Oh, I didn't know. I don't think I even had a smartphone at that time haha.

I'm not too up-to-date on my news. So Google and Motorola have a close relationship? Did this happen since the Galaxy Nexus? I suppose I'll do some research. Motorola makes good phones structurally, but I'm not really a fan of them aesthetically.

I don't know about HTC. They use nice materials, but their design cues don't make sense to me.

Firstly, the power button on top is a serious pain to reach for. It makes the device extremely cumbersome to put to sleep/wake. Samsung has it right by putting the power button on the right.

Secondly, I don't trust HTC and their batteries. They're just historically bad with batteries.

Thirdly, ergonomics. Samsung wins vs. HTC in this regard. Their phones are just hella more comfortable to hold. Something about the HTC One X just isn't very comfortable. I also dislike the protrusion of the camera on the back of the One X.

Having said that, I do hope, if it is Samsung, that they'll use more premium materials since this seems to be a big point of contention.

And if we can't agree on that, then can we agree that we don't want Motorola to design it? Hands down, they design the ugliest handsets. Ugliest! (Sony is a close second in ugly, IMO.)

Oh god, please no. They are "partners" but Motorola makes the butt ugliest devices. :(

Still thinking about it.

Really a jailbroken 4S might be my best option if I can find one cheap enough on a cost/benefit analysis.

The 5 is worse than the 4s - terrible connector design, bad design, horrible screen size, iOS 6 is a step backwards, several things unfixed for years, Apple are losing their competency.

But there's only one realistic option on Android, which is the SIII, and that has frustrations of it's own: Android's lack of security gives few video apps or games due to piracy, Kies is, unbelievably, almost worse than iTunes, it's far, far, far too big, the memory doesn't mount properly and software updates are rolled out in **** fashion.

Windows Phone is has all the downsides of Apple's censorship model with all the downsides of any minority platforms lack of apps.

We're truly in a malaise in smartphones at the current time. Competition and the patent system has delivered us into a disaster.
