It's been doing this for me for quite a while. On my iPhone 6S+, iPhone 7+, IPP, wife's 6 and the kids iPads mini. Issue is definitely wide spread and not limited to any device type. I'd say for ~3/4 weeks been having this problem everything always eventually updates but it's a PITA.

I did a search and the only thing I found didn't really remedy the issue (except re-install of iOS)..... When I click on the app to update it 1 of 2 things happen. 1. it immediately goes back to the update button or 2. the spinning wheel of death will spin and then it will go back to the update tab.

it's happened before but it seemed a hard reset fixed the issue but that was not the case tonight. I did read somewhere about his happening on an older iOS and the "fix" was to wipe the phone and re-install iOS.... I really don't want to do this so has anyone else found they had this issue and what have you done to fix it. Thanks for any help. AFD

Try resetting all settings in the Settings app before restoring. It's a lot less drastic. It only takes a few minutes to put those settings back. So logging out of iTunes and logging back in didn't fix it, right?

This was the post I was referring to.... there is no fix stated in it.
There really isn't one. So far best guess seems to be something on Apple's server side of things affecting some devices on some occasions.

This is correct. It is on Apple's side as it is working flawlessly today and I didn't change a single thing with any of my devices. Seems they fixed the problem, at least for now.

So annoying problem once again.. Lots and lots of glitches and unresolved problems. UGH!! Apple!! More and more people are starting to realize that the software quality is on a bad state in the last 2 years. Lets see how all this will end.
