Nice now fix the OS. Need a file system upgrade so it's not tedium hell. Need better external monitor support (I assume that is still the case.). And then need slick multi-tasking.

Then I will buy an iPad and give up my Mac. ...what's that Tim? Uh huh. OK. IT's a sideways move for you guys and not a priority. ...so just crush those dreams in our new crusher. Thanks Tim.

Author,

The #1 criticism of the last model was its weight; it was surpassingly heavy. Consider bringing up any weight improvements, if there are any, during reviews of subsequent models.
Yup. When docked the combo of Pro and Keyboard were actually heavier than an MBA. This was a point of criticism from me as well as the way the lower edge of the iPad hovered over the row of keys so the tips of my fingers were constantly smacking against it when I was seriously typing. It's hard to tell without looking in person whether they managed to actually fix that or not.

WHAT. DOES. IT. WEIGH???

Why is this information not available anywhere??
amazon package weight list for old and new one is the same. 2.2 lbs vs 2.29 so actual keyboard will likely be just as similar

So, really, when you boil it down, with this new Magic Keyboard you gain the same sort of function keys that you have on a Mac along with a larger trackpad. Both are definitely welcome but not earth-shattering. Would I buy one if I bought the new IPP? Sure!

For fall protection, the edges of the current 2019 model have a lip that protrudes just a smidge beyond the device's edge. This does not protect against all falls (especially those directly on the edge of the device), but if the iPad hits the surface at any kind of angle, it does afford some protection. It's not an Otterbox by any means, though.

I want this keyboard 😭 It looks like such an improvement over the last one. I’m bummed it only works for the new iPad Pros 😔

My biggest concern is the lack of side protection on this and the folio case. One slip and the corner is going to get dinged up. Has anyone that owned these type of cases in the past have any comments?

Oh and the price.

I have used them since 2018 and treat my iPad like hell and have never had the side ever get dinged. On another note, I think it would be insane to get one of these pro models and not get AC+. The iPad deductible is extremely low for accidental damage.

The more I see pictures, the more I'm sure that it's the wrong option for me. I want something that protects the ipad when detached, props up the ipad for drawing or watching stuff when detached, and has something that holds the pencil in place. The Zagg pro keys is definitely my favorite option, but they have no ETA on getting one, so I'm probably going to go with the logitech and return the apple one. I wish it didn't have a trackpad and had a place to store the pencil securely though.

So should I upgrade to iPad Pro from my 2018 12.9 inch Pro and buy a new magic case, or just buy the 13 inch M4 and use my existing Magic Keyboard case (which according to the Apple website will fit).

I own the '22 pro 11 inch and the Magic Keyboard. It's no more fragile than any laptop. They're not made to be dropped.

My biggest objection to a setup like this is iPadOS-based:

Unless Apple fixed it from the other MK, three-finger drag DOES NOT WORK with this.

Combine that limitation with the ones on the Files app and...

I bought an MBA M2 for that.

I WANT to not need it, but my M1 iPad is still (frustratingly) secondary to my Mac.

And NO, macOS on the iPad is not the solution here (which is also moot: Apple is NEVER doing it).

I'm bummed they have gotten rid of the folio keyboard case. It's light and was an ok keyboard for light tasks. If I'm doing something that requires the magic keyboard, I'll just use my laptop.
Yeah. Once again I don’t get to experience it. It’s my favorite case of all.

They can at this point implement a sweet trackpad too. Just charge me $349 and be done with it. I’ll pay. But I want this darn it.

Hoping it’s coming next year or something… smh…

2 12.9" iPads in our household. 1 has been AppleCare'd for this very reason. Fell and made a jagged burr that ripped clothing. The other has multiple dents. After warranty, I bought a completely different third-party case to protect edge, and a screen protector. Gen1 Air not-case had same issue. It is asinine that there's no edge/corner protection on iPads cases from Apple. As usual, there are plenty third-party cases that are nice slim and protect the edge/corners. I too slowly learned my lesson. 🤷🤨

The whole new thing. 13” M4 iPad Pro and the new Magic Keyboard case. Has function key row which the prior didn’t right? Also haptic feedback on the trackpad. Also it’s glass now. Also aluminum for parts of it.

Being more economical, I think you’re better off buying the Bluetooth Magic Keyboard for Mac, plus a leather wallet – I got one on Amazon for under 20 a few years ago.

Though you miss out on the backlight and the raised iPad position, you gain the ability to position the iPad a little further away but still within reach. That made a bit of difference to me when it came to neck ache through prolonged use looking down at a sharper angle.

Also leaves you free to choose any of the available iPad Pro cases to suit your style and needs, as well as a mouse or Magic Trackpad. (Beware that the first-gen Magic Mouse and, I think, Magic Trackpad aren’t fully compatible with iPadOS.)
