Just had a wonderful Christmas Eve dinner with my family, including some people who I thought might not make it, but they came in the end. Tomorrow will be a nice day with everyone too :)

Most of the decor was my mom's doing, and it turned out spectacular this year:

That is spectacular! I could never decorate any space that well.

For my part, this is the one time each year I attend church, for the midnight Christmas Eve service. The choristers at the church are such good musicians (and indeed, the organist and string orchestra) and they always prompt me to sing really well. I always get compliments from those members of the congregation standing in front of me. And man, some of the pieces at the beginning and in the middle for solo voices were spectacular. Those choir members are the real deal. I’d bet a good number of them are conservatory trained in some way. String players from the Philharmonic, I believe. What a treat to do that every year.

Oh, and I also cooked dinner for all ten of us, which, despite being intensely worried about all the things that could go wrong, ended up being wonderful.

Bloody freezing out there. 5 degrees, but the artic wind is making it feel much colder.

Decided to skip the afternoon walk. At least the wind mostly dried the washing we just brought in.

I think of lost count of how many cups of tea I’ve had. It’s a good tactic to warm you up. Especially my cold hands.

Will Christmas ever end?

It's only morning hete, but I'm already wondering.

Once, Chhrustmas probably flew by. These days, when I'm slone and almost totally forgotten, the season drags. And Christmas day feels like it lasts months.

That was the case for me ar one time. I stopped, because of transportation issues.

Past that, I liked the late evening services, ideally ones ending at midnight. But in my area, late evening services have faded away.

I did watch a "livestream" of one last night, but I'm pretty sure it was actually largely--maybe totally--prerecorded. That thought left me feeling more alone and forgotten than before I started.

Best find something to occupy yourself rather than clock watching all day.

Go for a walk or binge something on TV. Or do you have a hobby? Just best to occupy your mind.

Fortunately for me it’s already evening.
My last cup of tea of the day is made. Maybe I’ll have a hot chocolate before bed.

Do some fitness stuff like Zwift (get a indoor trainer bike like Zwift Ride or Kickr Bike) or if you like rowing, get a Concept2 RowErg and EXR app.

It’s a great way to make the hours go by and you’ll get super fit in no time at all. :)

Zwift is more social than EXR because you have hands free to type in the companion app.

Today was Regaib Day. We entered the blessed and fruitful three months (according to the Hijri calendar). We fasted, broke our fast at iftar, prayed to God, and now I'm preparing a tree for new year. We bought a real pine sapling, potted it, cleaned it, and now I'm decorating it. I'll post it when it's finished. Merry Christmas to all of us.

I might have said something like that six years ago... Then we had 2020...
:D Yes, every year has its ups and downs depending on numerous factors, including family finances, or injury or death of family members, and so on. 2025 has been great for my family and I, although this winter has brought us colder temperatures compared to a few previous years. But I remember much colder temperatures in the early '90s, even -65º F.

Well I hope for 2026 better things globally (pessimistic though I don't want to be) and personally which partly is in my hands. One thing I won't do is shave my beard for a "reboot" in the coldest season especially as I am an avid cyclist. I had a lot od beard dandruff with the cold and decided shaving would help with that so I can start over. Should have waited til spring, I have to put a scarf or muffler to not freeze my face. 😅 Anyway hope you all had a quiet break so far wether you celebrate or not.

Took a long and very pleasant walk on Christmas Day, enjoying - revelling in - the bright sunshine, and contrasting lighting, and then, on my return home, I spent the best part of three hours chatting to each of my two brothers (in turn) and my German sister-in-law by phone. Very pleasant.

Then, read a book and sipped a beer. Or two.

No social media, whatsoever.

Followed by bed, and a very sound sleep.

We have had some lovely sunshine. Unfortunately a bitter wind has mostly accompanied it!

There is not much one can do that will make a "global" difference. Yes, I could be wrong, but I believe that it is more beneficial to oneself to make changes starting with oneself first, since there is not a possible way for me to "change" others around me. Who knows what may happen if I lead by example within my own family? Would my family members benefit or understand the things I do and say for the benefit of my family, neighbors, or the entire town?

Agains, it is quite possible that I am wrong, but trying to juggle things at a global scale should be left to the world leaders. Life is short :)

42C on Christmas Day, and overnight the temperature refused to go below 27! After my surgery, the last thing I need is oppressive heat. A/C went on at 9am, and stayed there until I woke up the next morning. Realised one of the medications I have to take (until my surgeon review in 2 weeks) doesn't play nicely with alcohol.

Bitterly cold, agreed.

However, that is when you wrap up exceedingly well; me, I had donned layers and layers.......plus warm woollen sweaters and a warm woollen overcoat and was thus amply attired to face the elements.
We’ve had no sunlight at all today.
Just cold and grey. It’s supposed to brighten up on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Any guesses which two days I’m working this week? Yup. Tuesday and Wednesday!
