9/11 is on my mind today. I hope it never happens again.
Same. Like most of the adults, in my age at least, remember clearly and exactly what they were doing that date. Even here in Sweden. I always have loved the states and particularly the american people.
I was at home, don't remember why I was at home, perhaps sick or just a day of/vacation. Don't know really.
It was quarter to three in the afternoon (beeing 6h ahead from NY in our time zone) and my younger brother sent on message on ICQ (do you remember that one?) and told me to check the news on a swedish online news magazine.
Checked it out and replied immediately something like "Haha, ****, the hackers are getting better and better" or likewise.
I truly believed the site was hacked showing the first impact. It never went through my mind that it actually was real and happening on live broadcast.
He simply replied, "Turn on your tv".
That gave me the creeps, suspecting the worst. I did hesitate turning on my tv and thought to myself, "please god, let this be some kind of sick prank" or so.
Well, I did turn on the goddamn tv and was in some sort of shock the following hours. Calling friends in the states (not actually in any of the states directly impacted but anyway) and no one, absolutely no one answered my calls. (3 persons, one in Seattle, one in California and one in New Orleans) I sent text after text to them hoping to get some sort of repy. God knows if they were on vacation or something like that in NYC.
Horrific.
