Autumn is on my mind. This last week I feel the weather has tuned. Already putting in extra layers. Although I’m a few behind Mrs AFB!
A member who seems to have cancelled his account. BigMcGuire always made interesting and useful comments. Earlier this summer he took a couple of very short breaks but kept his account. Now it says cancelled. Too bad.

My Dad bought a boat once. But never had the time to use it. Probably suit him now he’s retired.Buying a boat is on my mind after today, the rain has been relentless and like stair rods.
Ah. That makes sense.A car is so far down on my list of priorities, because I would only be able to use it like 3 months out of the year unless I wanted to drive 1500 miles to and from college several times a year (which I don't want to do). Plus, on-campus vehicle registration is basically a lottery since the campus is so small, so who knows if I'd even get a spot...
I already got a new stage keyboard over the summer, so now I'm planning to upgrade everything else now that I've saved up some money—computer, phone, studio monitors, PA, keyboard case, etc.
Buying a boat
Yes, I agree that the weather has turned.Autumn is on my mind. This last week I feel the weather has tuned. Already putting in extra layers. Although I’m a few behind Mrs AFB!
Absolutely brutal, fairly chucking down, yes, to describe the incessant downpour as "like stair rods" is an apt and grimly accurate description.Buying a boat is on my mind after today, the rain has been relentless and like stair rods.
I understand the sentiment. I never really enjoyed driving so when I didn't have to anymore I didn't miss it.I’d hand over every piece of tech I own before the keys to my car.
You can practice in advance - just get into a cold shower fully clothed and just keep tearing up £20* notes while you’re in there.I have often heard that referred to as ”A hole in the water you throw money into.”
This one has it right. You can practice in advance - just get into a cold shower fully clothed and just keep tearing up £20* notes while you’re in there.
* Or any other currency of your choice
Right, I gotcha. That seems like reason enough for you to need a car in that case, since you'd presumably be driving it year-round.Ah. That makes sense.
Going to Anchorage from where I live, the only alternative way to get there is to bike 15+ miles, and if I go to college here from where I live, that’s going to be a doozy biking that much everyday. Plus I’m limited to where I can go. I won’t be able to go to Palmer/Wasilla, unless you’re a crazy person, as the only place to bike would on the shoulder of the road, or on the railroad. The rest is swamp. Also, there’s a bunch of homeless in Anchorage. So I pretty much need a car and I don’t want to keep driving my parents car, simply because I don’t want to get into an accident with their car, so I need to find a way to buy my own.
I completely agree! No need to overcomplicate things imo.You don't need a car in college, especially in first year; just immerse yourself and enjoy the experience of being with like-minded enthusiasts, and able to learn from gifted, experienced and enthusiastic instructors and teachers.

From experience I learned that you can request that your account be reactivated. Hopefully he comes back at some point.I hadn’t noticed this but what a shame, a nice guy and a great contributor, especially to the EV thread. Does ‘cancelled’ mean the account can’t be reactivated?
Yes. There is a reason why they say: if you want to bankrupt a country "gift" them a navy ship.Agreed. When I was working for Fisheries Dept in PNG, we hired a specialist boat builder from Sweden.
He used to say that a boat was "A hole in the water, lined with wood, into which you throw £20 notes".
Also seen on the back of a horse float "Poverty is owning a horse".

"Cancelled" generally means that you - the member - has chosen to terminate the account, and asked that it be "cancelled" (rather than the forum 'suspending' you).I hadn’t noticed this but what a shame, a nice guy and a great contributor, especially to the EV thread. I would imagine that it could be re-activated, should your circumstances - personal and/or professional, change - and that then, you could request that your account be reactivated.
@Expos of 1969 also says (from experience) that this is possible.
In any case, I am sorry to see that @BigMaGuire has decided to leave the forum.
People who are on their phones or talking (or doing both) during presentations, it's just unbelievable.
I was mildly successful at staying engaged during Zoom calls. I always kept my camera on though, out of respect for the other meeting participants. Personally, I got really annoyed when people turned their cameras off...I read on my phone during some Zoom meetings. Disable my camera so they don't know. Only way to keep my sanity when some people keep going over and over and over the same already resolved issue.
My Dad used to say the net pleasure you get from a boat is inversely-proprotional to its length. My Dad bought a boat once. But never had the time to use it. Probably suit him now he’s retired.
