What's so good about USB-C on ipad?

Well for one thing the unification of all devices to one single cable type can be a huge deal to those of us who travel and want to reduce what we have to carry around with us.
Yes, that's the primary reason. But I think that some are hopeful that it means added support for peripherals. THAT is a bit of wishful thinking.
This is exactly what is good about it.
One charger, one cable for multiple devices.
But in reality people will buy multiple chargers for multiple rooms/locations.
I think this is why Apple opened up the usb-c mfi
I feel like this is the bigger reason - there was that rumour about the new iPad Pro being able to drive 4K monitor over USB-C.
I guess if you have MacBooks or other USB-C based devices. Myself, I carry just lightning cables to charge my iPhone, Watch, AirPods and iPads. If they go to USB-C it'll mean an additional cable for me. Not a huge deal though if there's other benefits realized from USB-C.
I think it’s just further proof that Apple sees the iPad as a laptop replacement. Or at least it’s equivalent. USB-C and the rumor of the next iPad pros being able to run an external monitor fits. Guess we’ll find out soon enough.

You can already attach an external monitor to the existing iPads via the use of a dongle. I doubt Apple would take steps to eliminate the need for a dongle.
It is like that now, yes. But in a few year from now, everything will be charged using the USB-C connector, making it much easier. Heck, almost all other non-Apple electronics coming out now use USB-C. Lightning needs to go away, so personally I am really hoping the USB-C iPad rumors are true!
USB C is total hype. Although it presents the possibility of a uniform connector, but usb C functionality is far from uniform. Is the usb-C port on your computer supported by the video card? sometimes. In the meantime, it will mean Apple users of the iphone and ipad, will need an additional charging dongle
Well, for the devices I use the most - iPhone, Watch, Pencil, AirPods and iPad I can see them all using wireless charging and never going to USB-C (except for the iPad).

This is always a challenge too. On the MacBook it's USB-C. On MacBook Pro its Thunderbolt 3.
TV out through Lightning is currently crippled. Hopefully this will allow a full, uncompressed signal to be passed to an external display.

For my current iPad Pro 12.9 I purchased the expensive 29W Mains plug and a USB-C to Lightning Cable so I can charge at maximum rate.
Now, what do you think Apple will put as the charger and cable for the 2018 iPad Pro?
I doubt it’ll be 29W and I also doubt it’ll be USB-C to USB-C!

I'm not convinced that Apple will put USB-C on the iPad Pros... not when they just released flagship smartphones with lightning connectors.
Last time I travelled, I took three lightning cables for my iPhone 7, apple Watch, and ipad, and a micro USB for my kindle fire, all plugged into a 4 way USB charger. Next time, I'll take 1 lightning for my iPad, 1 USB c for my galaxy S9, 2 micro USB for my kindle fire and galaxy watch, all plugged into the same 4 way USB charger.
4 cables either way.
This may be the perfect time to introduce it for iOS devices since the impact will be lower than if they introduced it for an iPhone. We’ll soon know I guess.
Personally I hope they go with usb-C because:
- Third party access.
- It signifies that they are more interested in providing ease of use and standard compliance for customers such as me rather than interested in using their platform buy-in and our fanboy-ism as a lever to wring every little cent out of every little thing.
- Followthrough.
- standard chargers and charge cables for everything.
some are already supported. With USB-C no lightning to usb adapter will be needed. That’s already pretty good
Lightning 2 port with higher video output capability than the original lightning. I just can't see Apple passing up the licensing money by ditching Lightning for USB C.
