It's a shame the NFL is such a PITA with licensing. If they offered something like MLB does I would take it. I thought I read last year they would be selling it directly for iPad users the following year but I don't see anything about that now. Shame.

Last season I used Skyfox on my iPhone and iPad to watch NFL games when I was away from a TV. If that still works this year I will just Airplay from my spare iPhone 4S or iPad 3 to the ATV (assuming I really do drop cable).

I have the MLB TV package and that worked great on my ATV last year. So for a hundred bucks or so baseball is covered--and covered far better than I got with my sat subscription. I am jailbroken and have the app FakeLocation so was able to watch every game--no blackouts (my iPhone and iPad thought they were in some very remote area of N Dakota lol). That only works on the iPad/iPhone/touch but I didn't need that too often as I don't live where my favorit team plays. So MLB TV on the ATV was fine for most of the games.

I could live without basketball and most certainly without hockey.

But the NFL situation still sucks. It's hard where I live to use an antenna and get much of anything.

iTunes home sharing will let you access the videos stored in your iTunes library, whereas iTunes Match does not (aside from music videos, and only those purchased through the iTunes store).

Moreover, as someone who is considering rolling out ATVs for all of my TVs and ditching satellite I don't want to rely on the Internet for everything. I would like to balance that load by using the local network for, well, content that is already local.

Frankly why I don't find a non-jailbroken ATV of much value.

Jailbreak, XBMC pointed at a NAS on the network, and off you go. None of the "authorized computers" , additional machines running, etc.

Then you should have answered the guy by mentioning that instead of iTunes Match.

I am jailbroken too, but that is only possible on my ATV2. My ATV3 is not currently jailbreakable so home sharing is better than nothing. The videos in my iTunes library live on a NAS so XBMC and Media Player on my jb ATV2 can play them directly. But my main mac is on 24/7 for remote access so leaving iTunes running is not a big deal.

I'm assuming there will be a jailbreak soon?

And as far as media sharing...if Have a NAS I don't need to have iTunes running to share with the AppleTV?

Is there a way to keep iTunes synced between two computers?

You'll have to wait for the jailbreak to access the NAS directly.
Out of the box, the ATV can only share with a computer running iTunes.

What I am now loving about ATV combined with Air Video, you can watch your anime, you can watch stuff from iTunes you can watch any movies from anywhere within your hard drive on your TV or iPod, iPad.
