I'm a wanna-be switcher. I'm so tired of getting malware on my pc despite keeping everything updated, not opening emails from unknowns, etc. What's holding me back is basically convincing my wife that we should spend between $1,500 and $2,000 on new computer with an OS neither one of us is familar with.
I switched two years ago, after many years with Windows. I was truly shocked about a few things:
(1) how easy it is to use
(2) everything actually works together - hard to explain, but you'll use iPhoto and iTunes Mail and Calendar and Address Book and see what I mean
(3) no viruses or spyware - none! - no need for anti-virus and 3 different anti-spyware programs, registry cleaners, and all sorts of other ilk.
(4) it's fun to use - a home computer can be fun & different from your work computer!
(5) While not everything is better, *almost everything* is. Seriously. This is obviously a subjective opinion and YMMV but even for hard-to-find apps I've found suitable replacements that work on OS X. My only disappointment is that I didn't try Mac sooner.
I bought a used 12" Powerbook G4 two years ago for $1200... today on ebay they're still going for about $750-800... a PC wouldn't hold its value like that. You can buy a used one and try that.
