The price of teh PS3 will fall to more affordable levels every 12 months or so and it is going to be around for the next 6-7 years.

The iPhone will get cheaper and better just like the iPod and each time it does more people will buy it.

I would like to buy an Aston Martin, but they charge too much for them. They should reduce the price so that I can afford one.

Thank you.

Expensive smart phones are a niche market??

How come the Nokia N95 is the biggest selling phone in the UK at the moment?

I work for a company that sells accessories for them, and its our biggest selling items are N95 accessories.....

Well, in the US they are. At least based on what I've seen

Or they might take a leaf out of MS's book. Release an Xbox with a bigger HDD, colour, and HDMI output rather than giving us a price drop. They're already planning a larger HDD SKU for the PS3.

Yea. Course the iPhone will drop in price. I'd love to have one. But that price for a machine that does little more than my current phone (70 quid) and holds less than my 80gb iPod (180). Just doesn't cut it for me I'm afraid.

Exactly - even the expensive model - $600/24 months = $25/month = $3.57/day before data plan

Wow, someone really needs to explain to me how $25 a month comes to $3.57 day...I think you did your match backwards...

Anyway, I recently tried to upgrade my Sprint phone to a smatphone, a Palm 700. Even though I'm a longtime existing customer, they wanted **$575** just for the phone, saying I didn't qualify for discounts (i guess being with them for lmost 7 years means you are not eligible...only if you are a new customer)!! I literally laughed at the guy behind the counter and told him he was insane before walking out the door. If I'm going to pay $575 for a phone, it's going to be much better than the Palm 700! I haven't yet called the national number, but based on that, I can't possibly bitch about the price of an iPhone!

- Started their entire creative department from scratch
- Helped build the company from 17 employees to 325 in 5 years.
- Helped land new business building the client base from 20 to over 400.
- Creative billings, among other factors have helped to raise (NET) revenues from $4 Mil/year to a projected 36.5 mil for 2007.

All my hard work has also helped to raise my company to #5 overall in PROMO Magazine's 2006 PROMO 100. They also ranked my design team ranked #10 (of 100) in creative campaign work.

You are one acquisition away from being back at square one.

Exactly. The UK is a different beast with a different network and user base.

Subsidized phones you end up paying with through all the shady fees of a contract. And like others have pointed out, the iPhone isn't subsidized. Yet I'll still be locked to Cingular paying those same shady fees. So $600 + contract means I'm still paying out the ass. Not to mention that it only goes to 8 gigs. I'll just use my iPod as a crude PDA. It already holds my contacts and calendar.

Oops - corrected. Should have read "$600/24 months = $25/month = $6.25/week = .89¢/day before data plan."

I doubt you could even get two tin cans and twine for .89¢.

You are one acquisition away from being back at square one.
You're right about that. I've been through that before in my last job when the company I was with expanded from 175 employees to 850 only to be bought out by Publicis who slashed it down to 250. At least in this job I negotiated minority ownership in the company which is still privately held. No doubt upper management will sell in a few years. Then I'm on to new challenges, that's the biz. :)

Because:

iPhone feautured smartphones: 299.99 USD
iPod: 199.99 USD
So the iPhone will retail for...

Well the iPod w/ 8Gb is 250...so I'm not sure why the iPod part of iPhone would cost 50 less, when iPhone has even more(touch screen, vidoe etc)

Also I'd say the phone part of the iPhone is worth more thne 300. Thats about a Palm Treo....and those things lack Wi-Fi and lack the touch screen.

So I'd say the 599 isn't a bad deal at all. 250 for the iPod part, 300 for the Phone part, and 300 for the Wi-Fi part(base it off the Nokia Tablet, or Sony Mylo)

I think once the price gets to $200-$300, it's going to be a huge seller with the general public. For now, sales will be good--but it's definitely a luxury item at this point.

Something that I don't recall seeing here that may be important. It is most likely true that anyone who goes out and buys a first edition version of the iPhone is probably going to be a beta tester. From a strictly psychological viewpoint anyone willing to slap down $500-600 is probably trusting in Apple's abilities and more willing to cut Apple some slack. This is not to say that the phone won't improve, or that having spent the money the early adopters will just roll over. Just that by setting the cost so high Apple is able to more easily separate those who think the iPhone is cool and those who think the iPhone is cool and trust Apple's ability to make it work enough to buy one.

ON the flip side how many people do you know now that have had to replace their nice phone they broke and didn't realize the second one would NOT BE FREE OR $9.99 or even $49.99, but hundreds of dollars because it is not subsidized.

Thats why I always get insurance. Nothing ruins your day like shelling out $250 to replace a phone that you thought was $50.

This is exactly what I'm talking about!

No one seems to see this point. I was once a Verizon customer and knowing for sure they wouldn't sell me the new Q for $99.00, I went and dished out $545.00 becuase at the time the Q was the phone to have and it was the best smartphone out there that did the job well as well as make calling easier. (BTW, I DO NOT consider the iPhone a Smartphone, the iPhone is ina class by itself.) But $599.00 for the iPhone! That's outrageous, yadda yadda blah blah blahhh. Ya know what, DON'T BUY IT then! Keep your clam shell dull knife and wait a couple of years till it's the price of a calculator.

I have a palm treo and it does have touch screen, however it does not have wifi. The competition it competitors like the discontinued HTC 6700(being replaced buy the new 6800) or the HTC Tytn which also have a touch screen and similiar features it also come with wifi. Just saying.

The Treo 750 has both a touch screen and wifi, just so you know. And before subsidy, which is what everyone seems to think the iPhone is (it's not, it IS subsidized by ATT) the 750 is the same price as the iPhone, $500. AND you can have third party applications!!!

And those numbers add up to $850, not $599. And I doubt the wifi will be quite as well implemented as it is in the Nokia tablet. Mylo, eh, that's a niche messaging device really and don't really have a place in the comparison.

I remember scoffing at the price of the gen 1 iPod, thinking to myself that it was an outrageous price for a MP3 player. Fast forward close to 6 years later, and I currently own 3 iPods.

If the product is half as good as the hype, then the price will not matter.

I would think most people don't pay full retail price for their phones. I just got a Motorola Q from Sprint for $50. I would love to have an iPhone, but nothing about it is so special that it warrants $500.....iPod or no iPod.

Yes, it's practically the same device. Except web looks like this on it:

I'm sure that's super-easy to navigate with just one finger. Oh, wait, that's right, you have to use a stylus to click those 4-pixel links.

I'm interested to know where you got the information that iPhone is subsidized by AT&T? A link to some sort of source would be nice.

Yes, awesome third-party applications such as this:

I have an HTC P4350 Windows Mobile phone and yes, the web is easy to navigate with one finger, and yes, it easy to use your finger to click the 4 pixel links. It's very accurate. And besides, I happen to like using a stylus. I'm OCD when it comes to fingerprints on my screen, which the iPhone will have plenty of after a few minutes of usage.

I love how everyone argues about EVERYTHING! The bottom line .. if you want the phone, get it .. if you don't, then shut the hell up!

I personally think that there isn't a phone that comes close to the iPhone. But that is my personal opinion. It doesn't just have a touchscreen, it has the "most revolutionary user interface since the mouse" (multi-touch). It doesn't just do internet, it has the "most advanced web browser ever on a portable device" (safari).

And come on, with all the hype surrounding it, does anyone really think Steve will take the chance for it to be even slightly less than what everyone expects (he did pull a bunch of "some key software engineering and QA resources from our Mac OS X team" to make sure the product was finished on time and done right)?

That just a small example of all the software out there. I would like to see iPhone run price scanning software, inventory software, or medical software. Then again with WM there are devices that have 2.5in screen and devices that come with 4in screen(refering to WM phones in this example) so just trying to be a little one sided. Not sure what the largest screen palm decivice is. Ah and with WM you have the option of vewing it in the wepage in IE WM standard mode or desktop mode. Not sure how Opera does it.
