They cost more because loyal Apple fans will buy these accessories at any cost. Price shouldn't be confused with quality.

I am sure that is true for a segment of the population. But virtually every statement will apply to a segment of the population.
When you say something "cost more", you implies that it costs more than something else, and for the statement to be truly meaningful, you have to compare APPLE to APPLE. Hence your problem: you are not comparing APPLE to APPLE.
Kidding aside, as I said I wish someone would make a better case and sell it for half the price. But no one did, by my criteria: minimal, perfect fitting, looks good, with magnet on the back to hold the cover when folded back. I would be willing to pay more if it is real leather, not the pleather crap. There may be a reason no one did: perhaps it would cost more than Apple if they did it.
Another example why some people lean toward buying Apple. I now own 4 or 5 non-Apple Lighting cables (Belkin and other brands). They all have problem at one time or another. The few dollars I save is not worth the hassle I have been through being on a long trip with a non-functional Lightning cable. The main reason I got 3rd party cable was that I wanted a black cable, not a white one.
It's nice to pay less and get what you need. But it can be expensive to pay less and get not what you need.
