Seeing as new rumours point to in-screen Touch ID coming next year instead of this year, is it likely that power button Touch ID like the iPad Air 4's will be offered instead as a compromise? Earlier this year, we saw Touch ID come to desktop Macs by way of the new Magic Keyboard but we also didn't see Touch ID make a return to the iPad Pro.

Well we don't know yet. I really hope that they will implement Touch ID THIS YEAR, whatever the type of system (under screen or on the power button).

We can understand that Apple couldn't put Touch ID last year because iPhone 12 industrial design had been finalized before the pandemic had started. But there won't be any excuses this year. They had more than enough time to design a Touch ID solution for 2021 iPhones.

However as Apple is very stubborn in their choices, there are high chances that we won't see Touch ID this year and they will simply justify it by the fact that Apple Watch already helps to unlock Face ID iPhones while wearing a mask.

But not everyone wants a connected watch and buying a 400$ watch just to unlock your phone isn't what I call a smart solution.

I'm really fed up of entering my pin code HUNDREDS of times a day to unlock my phone at work where I have to wear a mask, outside and in the subway in my country where many thieves can memorize your code and then steal your phone equipped with Apple Pay cards...

I have been an iPhone user since 2010 but I'm tired of their so-called "decisions that take courage". If Apple doesn't implement Touch ID this year, I'll probably just pick up an Android that offers it.

it's really disappointing that there is no solid rumors of Touch ID this year.. all points to next year's phones. Power button would be nice but there is no mention of it anywhere.
I wanted to finally retire my 6s but if no Touch ID this year I'll think about it what to do. I don't like Face ID . I had the 11 and returned it mainly because of that

I think next year atleast Pro models will get TouchID. This year will be about 120Hz for the Pro

Yes literally Zero chance this year for the 13 range. Apple could also say to customers that if they want a Touch ID enabled iphone now, then to buy the Iphone SE2 which is part of their current line up of iphones. Of course not everyone wants an SE2 so not the ideal solution at all.

I'd say it's unlikely you will see TouchID in any iPhone 13 model. There's been no credible rumors or any leaks that say otherwise. I suppose that could change before the release but the iPhone 14 would have a better chance having it implemented in some form

I don't think we will see anything of the kind this year. It will be business as usual with the new phones.

I bet 'normal' spec bumps this year & then bigger changes next year, but still with the new family look across iPhone, iPad, iMac etc

So no.

I can’t see apple going backwards to Touch ID. I can’t even begin to imagine the uproar if apple regressed their phone features!

If it doesn’t come it clearly means give version isn’t as simple as the comp as gurman said it was being tested

Haven’t been strong rumours about this so I doubt it

likely the price will remain the same yet we are getting LTPO and camera upgrades in pro models, and camera upgrades in regular models along with more band support.

I agree with all of this. I’d happily buy an iPhone 13 mini if it had TouchID, but otherwise I’m going to stick with my iPhone SE 2. Any iPhone with FaceID would be a major downgrade for me. Pandemic and all.

With all the Touch ID patents Apple has its doubtful that we will ever see it
Now is the time if Apple is going to do it. The pandemic still requires mask wearing in some situations

Like many other have said, not much chance for touchID on iPhone 13. So guess what i did instead of waiting and hoping for touchID on 2022 iPhone? I went and bought the se2020 to use it along with my X, and loving it.
