I think one of the biggest problems facing Apple and the other phone makers is battery life. Weather it be at the office, or the airports people are always struggling to find an outlet to charge their phones. I would rather have a new battery technology that lasts twice as long than 5G. Since the carriers are always congested in densly populated cities and events, one most wonder how much benefit 5G will give in real world situations.

I do not do a lot of traveling so I phone get charged on the wireless pad each night. I have never needed to charge in the middle of the day. The iPhone last more than enough for the average user and do not think that battery life is on the top of everone’s wish list.

As far as 5G, I hear the data moves so fast that it will actually decrease congestion on the local networks.

We will have to wait and see.

Smartphones are gonna remain stagnant until the next big thing.

Short term, I’d like to see a true wallet replacement at some point, which would be slow rolling software changes over several years and nationwide adoption.

Long term, I’d like to see us get to the point where a phone isn’t necessary. Some type of wearable.

Top Five:

1. Elimination of the phone requirement to setup and use several of Apple's other devices. And especially, iPads and the Apple Watch should be allowed to be our 'phones' without the need to own a iPhone.

2. Shift to USB-C and update the Files App as an optional intermediary between attached cameras and storage

3. Broaden the capabilities of NFC to allow the setup and use of NFC tags. This would allow taking advantage of...

4. Other modes with set preferences. I find all of Apple's 'Do Not Disturb' modes limited. I want to fine tune and differentiate between the active apps being used and/or notifications I receive while driving with the ones I receive at work, which will be different from the mode I set up when I'm studying, etc.

5. Expand the capabilities of call blocking and steal Google's call screening features.

Interesting that the majority of the suggestions are software improvements. As much as Apple would have you believe otherwise, the pace of iOS change is not fast enough for many of us. Apple has to balance introducing new features with keeping the default settings as intuitive and familiar as possible.

Thoughts on navigating your smartphone with your eyes? Meaning, not having to touch the screen?

Obviously this would only work whilst one is stationary.

If I’m not mistaken, Samsung actually tried this with the S4 when you would look specifically at the display, a sensor would monitor your eyes, where the page would scroll up or down, and it performed terribly, but of course, Apple has a different way of implementing their own technology. But I do like the idea.

Better image processing especially in low light. The Pixel is killing it with this. The Iphone is still poor with it.

And most of the software requests have been standard features for 2-5 years, some of them closer to 10 years on android...

iOS can do them, it’s just a matter of whether Apple allows their customers to get with the times... typically, they don’t. Apple knows best what you want, so just take what they offer and be happy. ;-)

1. 5G (obvious)
2. Elimination of lightning port. All wireless (bluetooth + wireless charging)
3. Elimination of SIM slot, going full eSIM.
4. Apple finally allowing users to download apps greater than 150MB via cellular

Siri, to me, artificial intelligence is a major contributor to iOS and the iPhones future. If Siri is revamped properly and efficiently, it has so much potential to expand beyond its crippled dictation struggles, and hopefully those changes are forth-coming.

Not sure if this year's iPhones improved on this, but being able to use the screen whilst it's wet or with damp fingers would be another step forward imo. Maybe not as big as others mentioned here, but if in-screen Touch ID finds its way onto future iPhones, then it becomes significant.
