For what it’s worth, I took in 2 phones for battery replacements yesterday. An hour later they were both done with no problems.

They were doing so many battery replacements they was a line outside the store for walk ins. Thankfully I had an appointment.

Apple techs are not allowed to proceed if the one of the battery pull tabs snaps. This is a safety precaution because prying the battery out introduces a risk of puncture. Safety of the technicians is more important than the price of replacing an iPhone.

The battery needs to be removed at some point, however, if they're going to refurbish or recycle the unit. Safety of US workers is more important than Chinese students moonlighting at Foxconn? Or, more seriously, is there equipment/machinery capable of this that would simply be prohibitively expensive to have in multiple locations on the off chance this happens?

I did mine on Halloween and there were no issues. I had an appointment and it took less than an hour.

The tech warned me that my raised glass screen protector might crack or peel up as a result of opening the phone but neither happened.

I went in early sat morning without a appointment slot and got my battery replaced overall really fast service and the staff knew exactly what they were doing!

Strange that Apple botched some of the phones on this thread were they still under warranty or out of it before you got the replacements from Apple?

My botched 6S Plus was out of warranty but was replaced at the cost of the battery replacement itself. So 3 years into 6S Plus ownership I got a brand new/refurb phone instead of just getting a new battery. I would have liked to keep my iOS 10 but 12 is very very good. Because the OS isn’t a nightmare I’m happy with how things went. If the current OS was a choppy battery killing nightmare I’d be upset about apples signing practices but things worked out.

I took my mom's 5c for a new battery about a couple months after they started the $29 program, only to have them mess up the home button. Didn't realize it until after driving all the way home from the Apple Store. Took it back the next day, and had to wait a month or so for them to get a replacement since she didn't want to upgrade her phone yet. The store did take responsibility for messing up the original, so the replacement was free of charge.

Naturally, one of my siblings convinced her to upgrade to a 7 about 4 months later.

My X is still under warranty with AppleCare+ until 2019, when it was botched. I didn’t pay for the battery replacement nor the replacement phone.

That’s good if only mine had got botched up Saturday however saying that they don’t really have the Jet black iPhone 7s available anymore unless they keep some refurbs somewhere lmao

All I asked was why were replacements failing and stated the reasons why a phone exchange wouldn't be optimal.
I didn't even pretend Apple to "meet my niche requirements". I said that Apple would solve the issue in a way that isn't optimal.
My reasons not to update are absolutely valid, even if you don't share them. And that's ok, too. I go by my experiences, as well.
There was no reason to be snarky. I wasn't even criticising Apple. I was only asking why were the replacements failing.

I don’t care if you criticize Apple. I’m not vested in company, I just use their products. As for being snarky? Well if having different opinions about something is being snarky, then so be it. No need to get your panties in a wad because I don’t agree.

It’s quite clear by a number of responses the iPhone is not made with battery replacement as a normal option. I used to use Motorola flip phone, seems like ages ago. They were designed for exchanging batteries in seconds. Perhaps because batteries only lasted a few hours.

Everyone these days makes a phone with more or less permanent battery. Case is sealed, batteries glued in. Not surprising that this causes damage with prying them out. I wouldn’t fool with Li Ion wet batteries either since they catch fire/explode if punctured.

Many things are manufactured with little or no thought for maintenance. Thinking of GM vehicles where engine needs to be removed in order to replace rear two spark plugs.

Can’t wait for solid Li Ion batteries to start being used in devices. Those you can cut in half with no resultant fire.

Today, unfortunately, more and more things are made to be thrown away. Rather than repaired. But I still say few companies replace an item at no charge if they can’t/won’t continue with a repair. Snarky or not, thems the facts.

I didn't know that, that's why I asked. Also, that's why I concluded that in my - admittedly fringe - case, a battery replacement wouldn't be optimal.

T-Mobile bundles it with my monthly JUMP! upgrade fee, warranty, AppleCare+ and theft and loss protection for an additional $15 a month. It even covers my Apple Watch Series 4 for 2 years. It would make no sense to then buy AppleCare+ through Apple.

That’s pretty good!!! Vodafone seem to charge high figures still on older iPhones it’s likely due cos of the 24 months warranty but I just normally buy the phone in the box and go sim only it’s a lot cheaper lol

Lol prob have to ship one over for me from the US I saw they have refurbs for sale on the us apple site

Btw since the battery has been replaced im exsperiencing a strange echo when calling someone I just hope this is a network issue as I cannot be bothered by another 2 hour trip on a lousey bus to Apple again :|

This is all a huge Apple conspiracy. They are deliberately break8ng phones so they can hand out new ones. Anything to move inventory.

Exactly. All those Apple executives won't be able to buy their 4th house and 13th car without people getting free phones because they botched the battery installs. Definitely a conspiracy. <clears throat loudly>. I love it :).

My wife's 6s+ was destroyed by a battery replacement. Kept rebooting and half the screen wouldn't light up. The Apple Store that did this was one we don't usually go to, overloaded, had employees that didn't care (half of them were playing with equipment while many of us waited hours after our appointment). Went to our usual Apple Store the next day and in 6 minutes walked out with a free new replacement and an apology.

My opinion? The Apple Store closer to LA had serious employee issues with no skill. Replacing a battery on a phone isn't easy - I did iPod battery replacements for coworkers back in the day, and iPhone 3g-4s were easy but it got really difficult after that. You couldn't pay me to open a phone now days.

They ended up giving me a new device when I went to get my iPhone X replaced for the display issue and new battery. Do the phones they giving you come with a new warranty?

Generally something like that carries a 90 day warranty.

Dang! I did not know that. Interesting. Would one have to buy the Phone & Watch from them? Or Bought elsewhere?

Also do you have to have Active Service with them (Pre paid / or Post paid/ or X term i.e. Months/ Years Contract)? Or just Month to month?
