I thought the MacBook had right click capability..

Ding ding ding.

Two fingers on mouse pad and click.

Gestures work just fine. Luckly, most of us can use more than one kind of computer system. Not all others can make the change.

I find it odd that people live in one camp or another. I perfer Macs, that's why I own one, but I can work with PCs and do just fine.

There is a reason bloggers are not taken seriously.

Should rename the entry "The MacBook Problem:It's the author, stupid"

Bad tone--but she is right.

Yes the new laptops do support two finger clicking.

Someone suggested a pivot in the middle of the button--great idea, stylish, but offering another feature.

And here I thought the boo boo was this:
One model even comes in nice, shiny, Nano black.
Could have sworn the black MacBook was matte. :p

And Doctor Q's edit tag's for Gary's OP is awesome. :D

shouldnt this article be taken down.... i mean the main complaint is just plain incorrect and thats not the only problem with article?

Being a newbie to Mac, I went into Mouse properties and couldn't find a right click option...but ctrl+click has become habit and is completely fine with me. In fact, I keep hitting that while running Windows.

it should read...
"we at CNet are idiots anyway... and we could stop b*tching and just use a USB/Bluetooth mouse... but that's to easy, so we'll slam Apple's caveman-esque 1 button mouse instead"

(iGary... that cookie looks really good, let me get one of those)

Come on guys, that article is really not that bad!
Sure you can control click, sure you can do this 'put two fingers on the trackpad an click' thingy, but still, just adding a second mouse button would be so much simpler and more ergonomic.
Thee problem is that Apple has defended the one button mouse for so long, that now they behave like a little child that won't admit that it was wrong. I'm sure everyone ranting about this article uses a two-button mouse with their Mac. Why, cause it makes sense for Gods sakes!!
So stop whining and ranting about everyone who criticizes Apple, sometimes they're right... ;)

It would not be as ergonomic at all. To click the right button on a PC laptop is an awkward thing to do, it is much simpler to put another finger down on the trackpad than it is to move your entire hand so you can right-click. The only two-button laptops I have found comfortable are the old Toshiba laptops that have the buttons vertically and a little "nipple" in the middle of the keyboard for a mouse.

One other thing, can anyone with a MacBook tell me how sensitive the two-finger scrolling is? I use iScroll on my Powerbook but I find that when I try to use the two finger click the screen scrolls slightly and I miss.

How do you use a mouse??? You use the same finger to press the right and left mouse button or do you use 2 fingers???
Seriously, I have no problem pressing ctrl-mouse for the right click, but still, and second mouse button wouldn't hurt anyone, those who wanna use can use it, the other ones can do it the old way. It would be so simple...

As for you question, I have no idea, sorry. (I'm better at criticizing others than at helping  )

While I can of course do the ctrl-click or two finger click on my MBP, I've got to give that article writer some credit.

I REALLY wish that Apple would give up on the one button thing. I've wanted a right button since my PB, and now with Boot Camp it's an even bigger annoyance to me that I don't have one. ;)

Why would you give her credit - the whole article is completely false..

What exactly is false in this article ?
It's her opinion, and I haven't found any statement in there that is wrong ..

edit:spelling

Call me unreasonable if you will, but the problem is as tiny as a mouse. Neither the MacBook nor the MacBook Pro comes with--even as an option--a second mouse button.

While technically that is physically true - there is a secondary click option for both these computers, which she totally fails to mention.

Do you have the 17" MacBook Pro?

The 15,4" does not support it however . . .

Its CNET they alway post lame ass reviews that are usually false in one way or another. They rarely tell it like it is, especially when its an Apple.

the whole artice sounds like it was written by a 13 year old kid...Talkin about how its all "sweet" and she cant even buy one. What a joke. Like all of you said, tis not the macbook...tis the dumb-a$$ authors.

I was about to say, the MB is definitley over an inch thick, the black isn't shiny, you can double click, it's not 'decently fast', it beats any other duo laptop on the market except for the toshiba qosimo which comes at 2.0 ghzfor $2400.

Also, it says most mac users don't even know about ctrl+click. Give me a break.

She even admits that apple makes the mighty mouse, but she made it seem like apple introduced it and then discontinued it.... that's odd that it comes STANDARD on mac desktops!

Sorry if this has been completley incoherent, it just really 'grinds my gears'.
