LOL reminds me of the jim carrey movie, ACE ventura ! when The bad guy was a old futbol player that turn into a woman because some other guy place the ball with the laces out

This must be an American Football thing…
Laces? It makes a difference?
:confused::confused:

Yes its an american football thing, I dont know nothing about it either lol

For all of the non-yanks, when you throw an american football your finger tips are meant to be touching the "lace" on the ball, so when you throw the ball your fingertips are the last part of your hand to leave the ball, thus making the ball spin and travel through the air.

Atleast that what how I think its meant to happen, someone correct me if I'm wrong ;)

how in the world sam bradford can throw like that amazes me lol

Texas Tech's quaterback Cody Hodges threw the same way in 2005. He said in an interview, "that is just how I have always done it". I guess it works for some.

Yes, it does.

Those of us with small hands, and mine are size 9, need the extra purchase that the laces provide.

If you can palm a basketball however, I don't see a problem. ;)

Now I feel quite stupid; I did not know that hands had sizes. How do you measure your hand size?

i can throw without using the laces but i'm not a pro and can't throw 50 yards like they do. Rugby confuses the heck out of me, it looks very unorganized.

I have to say, I find Rugby far more enjoyable (to watch) than American football, and I'm from America. There is nothing like watching a bunch of people knocking the snot out of each other without pads. If I'm playing, however, I much prefer American football. :p

thanks for the explanation i would have guessed the tight pants otherwise

(can anybody explain why american football player wear what looks like cycling pants ?

Granted, I have never been interested in sports, but I had to read the thread just to find out what "throwing without using laces" meant. I only watch one sporting event a year, the Super Bowl. I TiVo the game so I can start watching about an hour in, so I can FF through the game to get to the commercials. ;)

I think Mythbusters needs to get ahold of this "throwing without using laces" thing.

^ haha i would like to know too. the majority of ball sports on grass the players wear shorts but Baseball and American Football players seem to wear pants?

I'm not an expert, but in baseball, I would assume it's a safety issue, as players may need to slide into base.
