^ haha i would like to know too. the majority of ball sports on grass the players wear shorts but Baseball and American Football players seem to wear pants?

I'm not an expert, but in baseball, I would assume it's a safety issue, as players may need to slide into base.

Yeah the infield dirt sometimes has rocks in it, and believe me in shorts you get some nasty cuts and burns.

I agree with the OP I've NEVER seen anyone throw without the laces before, I always have, and I have big hands. In american football you are supposed to spiral the ball (to get the max distance out of the ball) every time I have no thrown with laces it get the "wounded duck" properties. However, it could be why those two QBs are still in college :p

Gah, those measurement guides bug the heck outta me--by their standards I should be a ladies' 7.5 (which is pretty much the most common or second most common women's size), and yet the gloves don't fit me, because of the length of my fingers! With non-stretchy gloves the fingers can be as much as an inch too short  If I wear a size up, or two if it's available which it hardly ever is, they're too wide--ah the joys of crappily designed, mass-produced clothing!

They should have short, medium, long like they have in pants at least.

*rant over, back beneath rock*

.....and shorts you normally sport in a gay bar...good ole Oz:)

But you gotta admit, it takes balls to wear shorts like that, and they play in any weather! I've been a footy fan for the past 15 years and think it's tons better than gridiron/American Football (and coming from Nebraska where college football is all that the state has, that's saying a lot!).

All arguments about padding aside, when the NCAA/NFL does away with timeouts, the whole play-stop-huddle-plan-play flow of the game, challenges, etc., then we'll talk. ;)

What gets me is that the normal NFL season is what, 17 weeks, with 3 weeks for the playoffs, and 1 for the Super Bowl? Not saying one is better than the other, but the AFL trumps that with 22 weeks for their regular season, with 3 weeks of post season, and the last week for the Grand Final.. that's half a year of regular season footy, not counting the Ansett (or whatever it's called nowadays.. NAB?) Cup, which is pretty much pre-season.

All of that aside, nothing is more amazing than seeing 60 - 70meter (65 - 75 yard) goals kicked on a constant basis (granted, there's a run-up, and they kick for distance, not hangtime), and someone jumping over a pack of guys about 6ft tall to take a mark (catch the ball). I'd pay to see a 300lb. defensive back in the NFL do the same in padding. ;)
