Uhm... 2 hour podcast of a tech radio show I was on ( i had to fix a windows computer and forgot about how to do something, so I got to call them.)

then, four presidential debates.
then, another pod cast that I don't really care for. I should baleet it.

BUT THEN, coming in at # 7, a one hour, 7 minute symphony... duhn dunn duhn duhn! BEETHOVEN NINE!

Yeah, classical music has a big advantage of length over non-classical.

Then, after that, the longest non-classical piece of music is 101th longest, and is some song by prodigy. "narayan."

...I'm a nerd.

International Crepitation Contest- 15:17

Followed by

The Battle Of Hoth (Ion Cannon/Imperial Walkers/Beneath the AT-AT/Escape in the Millennium Falcon)-14:48

Ok, with the exception of the Pink Floyd albums and Trance Mixes hogging the top of the list, as well as all the Blackadder episodes, and Monty Python live from Drury Lane, my longest "song" is;

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Providence

and then damn Robbie Williams clocks in after that with Beyond the Sea because of that secret track...really must fix that. Remember when secret tracks were amazingly cool? Guess mp3 changed all that...

My top 4.

Rock is Dead Session - The Doors - 1:07:06
Mountain Jam - The Allman Brothers Band - 34:04
Cassandra Gemini - Mars Volta - 31:42
Turn on Your Love Light - Grateful Dead - 29:22

The Tain (complete) by The Decemberists

18:35

it's listed as 5.99 on the music store, probably cause it was released as a single

aside from podcasts, audiobooks, speeches...etc

Live at Legends (7-30-89) -- Stevie Ray Vaughan & Buddy Guy
55:49

In The Sweet Embrace of Life -- Wynton Marsalis
54:43

all my classical stuff is broken up by movement
but those 2 take the cake. :)

(longest 'anything' is 3:12:59 - a radio show broadcast recording from WKNC dated April 18, 2004)

It is amazing what threads you can find whilst searching for something else. I completely missed this one the first time around. Time to charge the paddles and see if we can get some life back in it. That being said my longest are
1: Thick as a brick by Tull 22 minutes 37 seconds
2: 2112 by rush. 20 minutes 37 seconds

Something In The Way - Nirvana (20:35)

Not being picky or anything, but isn't this mostly the silence between Something In The Way and Endless Nameless, the 'hidden' track ;)

Anyway, my top five are:

1. Symphony no 6 - Beethoven (47:21)
2. Symphony no 7 - Beethoven (thanks BBC!) (40:35)
3. Static - Godspeed you Black Emperor (22:35)
4. Storm - Godspeed you Black Emperor (22:32)
5. Antistar - Massive Attack (19:38)

Longest tracks in iTunes are a couple of 2 hour podcasts...

Longest song is the Zeppelin Dazed and Confused medley from How the West Was Won, clockin in at 25:25. Then I've got about 3 23 minute songs, two Floyd and one Zeppelin, and it just goes downhill from there...

For real songs (as podcasts and albums ripped as a single file shouldn't really count) I have Wolfman's Brother at 30:43 and Union federal at 25:29 both by Phish, followed by Two Step at 18:56 by Dave Matthews Band and Dogs by Pink Floyd coming in at 17:08.

The lengths that many have cited are incredible, but my library of 1,698 songs contains a traditonal mix of rock and oldies that span the 50's through 70's.

Longest: Big Joe Turner's "Honey Hush" ... 8:39
Second: "Won't Get Fooled Again" by The Who ... 8:34

My longest track is the Old Testament (no idea how that got in here) by God which is 49:42:15 long.

Flying Spaghetti Monster... sheesh... ;)

For me, Tszliley Hakarem at 42:34 is only beat out by their slightly longer Tamouz, Sof Onat Hatapuzim clocking in at 43:39.

I learned later from my friend that they actually are one track, but were split to keep better track of his music, for a grand total of a rather friggin huge, 1:25:13. Now that my friend uses iTunes he wouldn't have needed to split them, but whatever. (No, the songs are not pirated-- the artist gives the songs out free, but good luck finding them in the U.S.)

I feel so small.

10:33 See the Sun & Closer, Dido
10:19 Pay the Man, The Offspring
9:21 Private Psychedelic Reel, The Chemical Brothers

1:10:52

I have to say, as a music grad student, I find some of these answers a little lightweight... :)

Mine's Arvo Part's Passio Domini Nostri Jesu Christi Secundum Joannem (possibly also longest title?) at 1:10:52. Oh, and my choir is currently singing it too (talk about voice strain).

Some nice symphony movements too, but they cap out at a little over 30 min.

Bob Marley's Greatest Hits downloaded as one track: 55:21
The Orchestral Tubular Bells: 26:38
The Orchestral Tubular Bells II: 26:33
Tubular Bells I: 25:29
Tubular Bells II: 23:20

Most interesting long track: OM Mantra Chant at #11 for 15:26

ooooohhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

I'm away from my PowerMac with all of my music right now. But, I'm going to take a guess that my longest song, excluding podcasts, full albums, tracks with a short track, then silence, then a hidden track, is Ender by Finch which I believe is just over 13 minutes.

Not really a single song but my longest is Act 2 of Tristan und Isolde at 1:17:25 - gapless !!!

Close Encounters by The Orb : 17:33 is the longest single track I have on iTunes. The longest piece of audio I have is 4h58m32s which is taken from an outdoor dance party in Belfast one New Years Eve.
