I prefer the clean and minimalist look of iMessage, but most of my contacts who own iPhones prefer Whatsapp, so I tend to use that more. Hoping an update with a cleaner interface be released soon.
Hey! It's a nice messaging app next to viber!![]()
I personally find Viber gets a bit sluggish when I go to the messaging section. I use both Whatsapp and Viber.
Is Whatsapp secure? I've read that others can view your messages on a public wi-fi? Is this true? Also, what's wrong if the Whatsapp sync with contacts - iMessage syncs with contacts?
Thanks for your feedback. I really want to download this app, but I want to make sure it's secure.
I always though that 1 check mark means sent and 2 check marks = read, atleast for me thats how it seems to work but its global not per conversation/msg by that i mean that once the app is open it marks everything as "read".
Exactly, thats why i say the 2 checkmarks kind of work to tell that the other person have "read" the msgif you sent a msg to someone and they havent open the app you only see one 1 checkmark, if they open or the app is allready open you see the 2 checkmarks right away.
I wonder if people will jump ship to bbm when its released to all mobile os, probably will be free and im sure it will work the same it does on bb with read/sent notice.
Not necessarily. On iPhone this is true because the notification is sent by push notification but only delivered when the app is opened. On other phones where whatsapp remains running even in the background, it could be delivered before the app is even opened.
Yeah on android if people leave the app you get the 2 checkmarks right away.
Viber recently released a desktop app, whatsapp should follow too !!

Whatsapp access your contacts and auto. tell you who is using whatsapp alsoit does not mess with your contact sync.
Hmm its fairly secure, they dont store anything on servers and msg are stored on your phone; if someone can sniff whatsapp msg they can do the same with other IMs etc.
But thinking about it if they use the phone mac addres in someone i guess you can spoof it and trick the servers to get other people msgsfor that they need access to your device or like you say in a open wifi network they can get those details with no hard work.
You both need WhatsAppit's a closed, proprietary service. But it's 99¢ on iOS and I believe free on Android and other platforms, so a smartphone and an internet connection (and possibly one dollar) is all the other person needs to get WhatsApp.Hey thanks for your reply. Just one last question: I can use Whatsapp and text someone internationally who may not be using the same (whatsapp) app and it would still be free texting or do we both have to have the same app (similar to skyping or viber)? Thanks.
I'll highlight a few points:
• It's cross-platform
• There are no usernames or "friends"—just your friends' cell phone numbers
• It's heavily used worldwide so you don't have to worry about using iMessage with a few friends, Facebook Chat with a few other friends, Skype with others, et cetera.

Whatsapp is free since today with new version release. I see no advantages though of Whatsapp over Viber for instance. Viber has a great quality calls, much better than Skype app + very good texting.
Sorry to bump a slightly old thread.
I'm using Whatsapp on my Galaxy S3 at the moment and it's great. Runs nicely in the background and notifications are instant.
'm probably going to get the new iPhone when it's released and just wondered how well Whatsapp runs in the background on ios.
Are notifications instant? Even if the app has timed out from running in the background (I'm sure I'm right in thinking apps can only stay active for so long in the background).
Remember, 'push notifications'Whatsapp on iphone will work the same way minus few ui differences.
Hitting backspace once deletes everything!!! Since the new update I hate this app! Facebook does the same thing and it's the only reason I refuse to use Facebook app. The new voice record crashes half the time and you have to close the app and reopen. The worst part: When recording a message and deciding to delte it while your phone starts looking for a Wifi network. You're pretty much screwed.
