My understanding is that unlike previous years, this will only be available to registered developer accounts and will show up in Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates. If so, I'm not seeing it yet...no Beta Updates section either, though I did see that section prior to today.

Later today for Apple IDs enrolled in Apple‘s payed developer program.

July for AppleSeed/Public Beta.
Today for Devs & Appleseed (Appleseed always gets same schedule as Devs even though releases say Public Beta).
July for Public Beta.

Yep, still says coming soon, you need to install the profile as before I’d guess still

Is it just me or did the wording change within the Apple Software Update setting? I'm in the AppleSeed Program and it used to be labeled as Customer Beta but now changed to AppleSeed Beta

Beta Profile starting from iOS 17 no longer exist in order for Apple to combat from people downloading beta without being in the Dev Program or the public beta program. Beta is now linked to Apple ID

You enroll in betas from Software Update directly. iOS 16 only as of right now, which is a 16.6 beta.

Now "Beta Updates" are once again appearing for me under Software Update...for now it's only IOS 16 betas.

Ahh gotcha, so it will appear when it’s ready cool…..

While you’re all waiting why not check out some of my games via raeenterprises.uk

We can wait together

I'm considering getting a Developer's Account. There's a longstanding bug from Apple that never seems to get any traction with the Public Betas, so thought about paying the $99 fee, but I have a concern:

My Apple ID uses my middle name, and a last name that is not my legal name, but what most people know me by. Signing up for a Developer's Account asks for my legal name. If I verify that, can I then change my name back on my Apple ID to my preferred name?

iOS 17 won’t appear there as long as you buy a developer account for 99$ and register your Apple ID.

Yeah I think the legal name in the Developer portal can be different from the one in your regular iCloud account.

Oh my sweet summer child, what makes you think that developer bug reports get more traction than the public beta ones. The Apple Feedback system is absolutely atrocious when it‘s not about developer features (SDK problems) but UX of the OS itself.

I‘ve reported a gazillion still present bugs with my almost 2 decade Apple developer licensed account and they get as much traction as the bugs my fellow Apple friends public beta user get.

Don‘t try to come up with excuses to hop on Dev Beta 1 tonight (paying for a license to report a bug), just dive right into it and don‘t feel bad about it. Loads of people sign up for dev betas because they can‘t wait to try out the new software, nothing wrong with that as it‘s no ones personal business what you do with your money and devices.

Your Feedbacks will get just as ignored as before.

However, as to your direct question: You can create a whole new Apple ID which you then register as a developer, and use that in the software update section of settings. You can keep your original Apple ID/iCloud stuff untouched.

Naivete.

I don't know if I care enough to pay $99 for a month's access. Financially, it makes no sense, and if Apple doesn't listen any more to developer accounts, then it would be really stupid of me to pay that. We'll see!
