Yeah, it’s been widely reported that iPadOS 16 obliterated the 1st-gen iPad Pros, especially when compared to the original iOS version, and that model’s keyboard has always been quite fragile. I don’t have the keyboard, but like I said, I have the same model, and it is great on iOS 12.Ooops. Typo. I mean the 9.7-inch iPad Pro. I believe that's the first generation iPad Pro line. I'm going to correct my original post.
My 11-inch iPad Pro is working quite well. No slowdowns, and thankfully the very expensive Magic Keyboard still works well. Battery life is not like it was before, but it is not bad at all. It's not to the point where it's worth it for me to replace the battery.
Yeah, that’s why I asked, I expected it to work just fine. OP had the 9.7-inch iPad Pro, and sadly it’s been severely affected. Like I said in one of our previous conversations, it’s my favorite iPad ever. Sad that it ended like this.I have the A12-based Air 3 and that works fine. It reloads a lot but doesn’t really feel slow.
I expect the A12X/Z-based iPad Pro 11 performs better.
My 10.5 lightning port just went kaput, granted I can get it changed, just not by apple as cost prohibitive.I have a iPad Pro 10.5 from 2017, and it’s still blazing fast and working great. The battery life isn’t bad and I have no issues with the screen. I just recently bought an iPad Mini 6 and iPad Pro 12.9 6th generation and plan to keep the 2017 iPad Pro for as long as I can.
As far as Safari goes, iOS 10 is very poor today, whereas iOS 12 is far better.IPads don’t die. They just fade away.
More seriously, the hard cutoff usually is when the last supported Safari version doesn’t support modern websites anymore. My dad used an iPad 1 for about ten years before web browing became increasingly problematic.
Had 2 iPad 2 (2011 models, cell models) a 64gb and a 32gb. 64gb recently died. I mean SSD took a crap. Boot loop and error message indicate a failed drive. 32gb model still going strong though. Battery was really never an issue on either device up until the 64gb died.I still use my 12.9” iPad Pro (2015) every day but I think it’s on its last legs. The battery is down to just 5 hours of screen time between charges, the screen has a few splotches, things are generally a bit wobbly… Does anyone have experience with iPads that are long in the tooth?
I have to disagree....iPads? They seem to really last.
iPad Pros? They seem to die far sooner.
Only if you have Apple care.Correct me if I am wrong but doesn't Apple give free iPad battery replacements?

I have to disagree....
My 1st gen 12.9 pro is still fantastic.
The only thing giving me itchy feet now is iPadOS 17 is dropped....
So to sum it up, they don’t die. Apple made a great product with the iPad and for me personally, all the times I’ve upgraded to a new one was never because I needed one. It was because I wanted some new feature and I’m a whore for technology
My original 12.9 I went thru 4 then upgraded to an 11. All the 12.9s suffered from display touch issues. Traded in my 2018 11 after a year to my current 2020 11. Original died after 6 months. The current replacement now suffers from a dead USB C port.I have to disagree....

I've had it checked out, it's not a stuck pin, thanks for fb though.I didn’t use my iPad for 1.5 years because the lightning port wasn’t working and Apple wanted to charge $300 to fix it. Come to find out, all I needed was a pair of pliers to pull the old charging cable piece that was stuck inside. After removing it, the iPad was able to charge and I was finally able to use it again.
You’re welcome.I've had it checked out, it's not a stuck pin, thanks for fb though.
My first iPad was the iPad 2 (2011), which I used until the Air 2 came out, at which point I handed it down to my husband. He used it for a little while before handing it down to his mom, who used it all the way until late 2019! For my husband and I and how we use our iPads, we couldn't have used it that long. But for my MIL, who only uses her iPad for streaming YouTube (and that's it--absolutely nothing else!) it was perfectly fine.
I have the 9.7" Pro from then, recently replaced by an M1 13" iPP. Screen has a splotch and the battery isn't the best but otherwise the body is fine and everything works. It's now primarily a music and Twitch player. I honestly don't expect it to die anytime soon.I still use my 12.9” iPad Pro (2015) every day but I think it’s on its last legs.
