2003?

I don't think updating it 4 months after a previous update is unheard of...In 2003, Apple updated that iMac in September, then again in November.

In Previous years, the iMacs were updated (mid year) as follows (minus early year updates):
2003 - September
2004 - August
2005 - October
2006 - September
2007 - August

So if following this pattern, maybe they would be updated in October?

I think they were still using multi color gum drop G3 iMacs at that point or at most, they were using the all white dome G4 iMacs. Since the switch to Intel, it is my observation that the update times have become more consistent. If you need a new computer now and the current iMacs meet your needs, you should get one. If you are one of these people who keeps waiting for the newest model, you will most likely find yourself using the same computer for years and years until it dies.

The Intel Core Duo iMac was released in January, 2006. The first update came in September of that year then August of the next year. The most recent revision came in April. So in the Intel era it is 8 months, 11 months, 8 months. The first and third revisions in the Intel era were under the hood. Only the second was a redesign of the exterior.

But anyway, like I already said I think the iMac is a good purchase at any time and should last you a good 3 years at least.

This is a hotly-debated topic, but I think (and I believe most people agree) that Blu-Ray is a ways off for the iMac. It will almost assuredly come to the Mac Pro well before it gets to the iMac.

Yep, the full sized drives are likely falling quicker than the 9.5mm slot loaders.

Who knows, Apple may use the next slimmer and smaller drive, making them even harder to find realistically priced up-to-date mechanisms for OEM use.

nice, im sure your lovin it. I miss my 20" weird thing happened....my 20" wouldnt turn on after this afternoon, took it to best buy they didnt have anymore 20" iMacs, got a brand new 24" 2.8 200 off. 1,599.00. i had to take the deal. They only cut the price like that because I use to work there and i have been in there 3 times already exchanging macs because of issues. Im getting used to the brightness of the screen I had to bring it to the lowest setting when the lights are off
