I have to agree with you on some of the points you just made. Most will buy the iphone regardless of what it looks like or what the specs are. If it says Apple on it they will buy it from sheer brand loyalty.

I agree with one clarification. Apple like other brands appears to have given the customer what they want. Using ford as an example if I like my ford fusion might I be likely to look at another ford before I look at GM? Probably.

So in that vein you clearly tried to deride people who might like apple products by buying another Apple product, because they are satisfied with the brand. You did stop short of using a derogatory name, however.

I think you have a certain bias when reading posts that mention Apple. I think you are a little defensive.
Read my post again. Nowhere does it say Apple brand loyalty is bad. That is just how you chose to look at it. I also think you cannot deny what i said. People buy will products based on brand loyalty...... you mentioned it yourself with the Ford analogy. So....were you deriding Ford? See how that plays out?

Absolutely true. Put displays side-by-side and you'll see differences in colour balance, black levels etc., but the fact is, all screens in todays technology are bloody fantastic.

I had a 4 year old MacBook Air and wanted to upgrade. Admittedly, when standing in John Lewis comparing the current MacBook Air to the MacBook Pro, the difference in resolution was pronounced. So I bought the Pro.

But the extra resolution has made no difference whatsoever to my enjoyment of the computer and, within a matter of hours, I quickly forgot that this screen was any different to my old MacBook Air.

Each screen tech has its respective strengths and weaknesses. It's just that today, these differences are so utterly minuscule, at least to normal human beings who simply enjoy using their smartphones and don't spend the whole day searching for dead pixels using a microscope. Certainly these differences are not enough for anyone to really need to get their knickers in a complete twist and forum whine ad nauseam about.

You won't find the changes so "utterly miniscule" when OLED enables the screens to be made of plastic and therefore not covered in glass and therefore unbreakable. Meaning drop tests will be a thing of the past.

Look at this phone, the Oppo R5 - it's an OLED and they drive a car over it while it's running and it's fine. They also drive nails into wood with it.

No sir, no bias at your posts. Maybe the way the post was written in such a way that it could be inadvertently misconstrued, not only by me, but by everybody who might read it.

I want to clarify I never mentioned "sheer brand loyalty", which implies a type of derogatory bias. My word was satisfied, which is very neutral.

But I do enjoy how we are now debating wording and intended meaning.

Again....you misunderstand things. Since i wrote "If it says Apple in it they will buy it from sheer brand loyalty" let me tell you what it means so you can have clarity. I buy an iphone every year out of "sheer brand loyalty".
I pre-order it before any reviews are out. So it is by wait for it......"sheer brand loyalty".
So if you get any negativity from that statement then that is on you.

My word was satisfied, which is very neutral.
Sorry "satisfied" is not neutral at all.

satisfied

Oh the irony....we are here 4 or 5 posts into this because of you. But i hope everything is clear for you now.......

I can only speak from my own experience, but I've been using OLEDs daily for the last 5yrs or so and never experienced burn in.

I went through 4 Galaxy S4 replacements and they all suffered status bar permanent screen burn in which was very annoying when i had the phone sideways when viewing videos/viewing conten you can just see a burned in stripe from where the status bar is, no matter what i did it still occured.

Maybe in Lollipop that wont really happen now as the status bar colors change all the time in Lollipop instead of just staying black like it does on Touchwiz

Well apple can certainly get away with things other companies can not.

They are "getting away" with one of the best smartphone displays... at least the well-cited "Displaymate" (which were referenced to frequently in this forum) comes to that conclusion. So what exactly is Apple "getting away" with? And do all the other phones with LED displays suck all of the sudden?

I appreciate your willingness to have a cogent conversation. So now there is no neutral word indicating a positive experience? Okay.

But since you clarified, I don't buy things out of "sheer brand loyalty", my purchases are based on meeting my needs and wants; including the entire spectrum of things one might consider from a to b. For example, while FaceTime is a core component of why I like IOS, I would go back to bb in a nanosecond, nothing to do with "sheer brand loyalty".

You still don't get it.......
No where was my post directed at you. You just take all things Apple personally. Its not about you....... So just stop hijacking this thread.

oh no I was not referring to the displays at all. I just mean when apple does unorthodox things, generally people are more accepting

nobody can throw their weight around like apple in the tech field

was really in response to the comments about 'brand loyalty'

Hmmmm. I am responding to a post on an Internet forum. If you think I'm hijacking the thread please report it. 3 off topic posts by you and I'm hijacking the thread! Riiiiigt.

No more LCD panel lottery.
I'm pretty sure there will be an OLED panel lottery. People will always find faults. Besides, OLED displays are not perfect. If they were, it would have replaced LCD a long time ago already.

Thanks for the clarification.

So really it's like the iPhone 6 delivering the best LCD screen, Samsung being great with their OLED and the difference being absolutely minor. What was this thread about again?

When will Apple go OLED on their tablets (and phones)

I think that when Samsung puts out a foldable OLED device... a product rumored to be coming in very small quantities by the end of this year... then Apple will eventually have to follow, just as they did with larger screens.

2013_samsung_flex2.png

(Some sources say it'll be tri-fold, btw, not the dual fold concept shown above. Samsung has patented both enclosure styles.)

Now my question: since "phablet" is already in use, what do you call such a gizmo? A "fold-let" ?

No such thing as perfect but AMOLED is far closer than any LCD. LCD hasn't replaced OLED since it's cheaper and more profitable. For now it's a premium product exclusive to Samsung.

That will change of course, if for no other reasons than OLED is far better and in the end will be far cheaper to produce (no backlight or color filter layers needed).

I call rubbish on this.

My S2 had very faint burn after a year of heavy use, omled has improved since then, I've owned every iteration of galaxy s and note 3 and currently have a note 4 and only the S2 had faint burn, very faint.

4 in a row of s5 is laughable.

Edit: I see they've been banned. ..

For OLED I think brightness plays a pretty big part in burn-in. The brighter the display the more likely for burn-in (and uneven wear for lit pixels).

Na the note 4 screen is the brightest AMOLED screen available and so far no burn in and neither was my galaxy s2-4 and note 3

The only phones I've seen with burn in as a big issue is the phones with on screen buttons in real life use . Store models I've seen Samsung devices with burn in but they have those on so long it isn't normal use

But is your screen brightness set at 100%?

Who leaves their phones at 100% brightness... I do leave it on auto at times outside since it's brightness is greatest then manual

Obviously since you're not trying to break your screen by having 100% brightness all the time....

I don't know where I was going with that, but it ends with the logic that OLED is bad. Let's ignore the fact that I'm on my second SP3 because of lightbleed....
