when will Apple update the Macbook AIR ??

faster cpu and maybe a 256gb SSD option

also it needs to match it's brothers with the same black bezel around the screen.

it just looks like an old generation compared to the new macbooks.

I just bought a new MBA revB last week. I couldn't wait. I had thought I would wait until it's upgraded again. That being said, if they upgrade it tomorrow I will buy a new one tomorrow. I guess it may be as late as September, but I am hopeful within a few more months. It has been less than four months. The revB is an amazing Mac. Much nicer than the original.

In its next revision, I hope the MBA is updated to:

2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4 GB RAM (as high end or BTO)
256 GB SSD (as high end or BTO)
Glass trackpad
Glass display (if light enough)
New battery technology like 17" MBP

Really the new MBA is a powerful computer. With its Nvidia GPU, Penryn 45 NM chip, 6MB L2 cache, 1066 MHz RAM, and SATA-II drive it's an amazing machine. Apple may be compelled to update it to give it same black bezel as other notebooks.

If it just had 4 GB of RAM and an eight hour battery, I think a lot of MBA owners would upgrade. It has a real die hard Mac following. That's why I think the update may happen sooner rather than later. As a maybe not, Apple appears to be still closing out its inventory of the original MBA and is still not selling RevB refurbished. The inventory may not warrant an upgrade anytime soon.

Roll the dice or look into a crystal ball. Let me know if you find out. I am already excited just thinking about a MBA 3.0. I already miss the glass trackpad from my unibody MB.

It is very tempting Scott to jump on board and get one of these paper plates. lol amazing machines...the extreme portability is amazing with the sleek thinness.

And the fact that it is powerful enough to run things like photoshop & virtual machines is a genius in such a compact design.

It is certainly ahead of it's time.

I pray and hope they don't adopt the glassy black bezel.

It looks cheap. I like the current design.

With that said.

I hope they maybe get.

3gb ram
2.1ghz 6mb l2 cache at least.
Nvidia 9400m
256ssd
somehow include an ethernet port in the door panel.

I want to see an increase in ram and processor.

Sorry, I don't think there will be an update anytime soon either.

In my opinion, I don't think Apple will make a great big deal about a MacBook Air updated. Plus as others have said- it's got NVIDIA and a bump in hard drive space.

But sometime in the future, it will be nice to see a little bump.

But I think it's a safe purchase for people in the market for an MBA.

Well worth the money for me!

correct me if i'm wrong but in order to have that black bezel wouldnt they have to put a glass over the screen which would make the Air heavier? I dont think Apple is interested in making the Air heavier since the weight is one of its major selling points.

Hopefully this May :)

However, we will NOT see the glass screen, but that does not mean they cannot paint the bezel black :D

I really like the look of the black bezel.

I've thought about taking the screen on my older Air apart and giving the bezel an airbrush of glossy black paint.

Not much point in 3GB - I'd say 4 is more likely. I'd personally rather have a second USB port than an ethernet port, that is more flexible - i.e. you can have ethernet and USB or 2 USB. I know you only get 10/100 and not gigabit, but I'll survive! There are definitely arguments for onboard ethernet (lower CPU usage etc) but I suspect once Apple have made that decision they probably aren't going to change it. A second USB port is perhaps marginally more likely, but given that they don't seem keen to add more ports to even the larger models I'd be surprised :(

I second the "I HATE glass shiny black bezel and uber-mirror screen" motion, though it'd be nice not to have to rely on an anti-glare film just to not have visible lines on the display.

which CPU from the roadmap do you think will replace the SL9400?

Intel mobile CPU roadmap
SL9600, set for April 2009. (Has the release date changed since then?) The PC Watch roadmap is a fairly old one.

Since they were recently updated, as had been mentioned, I would not expect an update in the near future. Maybe around June?
Probably. Depends on Intel's CPU release schedule, supply, Apple schedules etc.

I also note that last year many people were saying that the MacBook Air would be updated in Q1 2009 instead of Q4 2008. Well what do you know...

The SL9600 info is from October 2008. I haven't heard anything about it since then. I haven't seen any TDP specs on it to see if it'll cancel out the thermal dissipation Apple made by switching to 45nm and lowering the 3 TDP from Rev A. They might be reluctant to use it if overheating becomes an issue again.

Personally, I feel the worldwide economic downturn might slow a product refresh since a .2 GHz bump would cost more to implement and lower the profit margin since the base Air seems to be pegged at $1799.

I guess we'll see...

I doubt it will change from 17 W, since it's another model in the SL lineup. In fact, I don't think the future 2.0 GHz CPU will use more heat than today's 1.87 GHz one.

Although I'm sure there will be more updates than just a speed bump. Also, a computer that hasn't been updated for a while won't help sales either.

since the base Air seems to be pegged at $1799.
If the 2.0 GHz CPU moves the other ones down, Apple could choose to keep the 1.6 GHz on the low-end and so eat the cost to implement.

I read that if Apple sticks with the 45 nm Penryn SSF chip, that we should get a speed bump to 2.13 GHz with the SL9600. That would be nice and probable as Apple has a real winner in the revised MBA.

Apple updated it eight months between shipping of the original and revised MBA, right? So it has been around three months. May is likely. With the new chip, anything from April on is possible.
