I decided to enable the trackpad options and give them a try.
Single click with the trackpad is quite a bit slower than clicking with the mouse... Clicking the mouse button provides immediate response while with trackpad clicking you have to wait a moment. Seems a bit silly to me, but probably necessary since it has to make sure your finger has lifted off the trackpad before it can perform the command.
I also accidentally clicked on the "INDENT" option in the forum post toolbar while trying to scroll down before making this post.![]()
Guess I'm not a trackpad kind of guy. Bring on the secondary click button, Apple!
System Preferences -> Keyboard & Mouse: Uncheck "Clicking". Check "Place two fingers on trackpad and click button for secondary click"
Using the trackpad optimally is like playing slap bass. Always keep two fingers hovering or pressing on the pad, dependent on what you're doing, but hit the button with side of your thumb, possibly at the joint, not the tip.
What's great about this is that it helps you keep up your bass technique even when you're not by the instrument.
That pause you spoke of is part of what makes that "Clicking" option so terrible. I don't have the patience for that, and more importantly, it elminates the ability to script actions on Mouse Down.
