When will Lion be released to consumers?

Prudently, it should be released in 2012. All the OSs of the past 4 years have been horrible for the first six to nine months of public sale.

Of course it is incredibly unlikely, but 9to5's source claims Lion will launch on Sunday. If it is being released on the app store, then no advance notice would be needed as there would be no need to line up at stores.

I only post this because it's out there.

I saw that, but others think it's more likely that the gigs of data are media and other tools for the new Apple Store 2.0 anniversary dealo. Which would match.

The only reason I could buy June is because FCPX is scheduled for release in June. They may make FCPX require Lion. Just saying that there is the possibility.

I just got off the phone with Steve Jobs and he says August.

The date simply HAS to be announced at WWDC. And when it does get announced, it shouldn't ship in more than like 90 days. So I guess that in a bit more than a month from now is likely.

No, it doesn’t simply have to be announced at WWDC. Apple can release it whenever it is ready to be released. Release dates never does anybody good. Apple should take their time to release a stable OS because it is stable and ready, not the other way around. Every OS company should be like this.

agreed.... I don't see why people are saying its going to be released in June... we still only have a Developer Preview.. The keyword is Preview.. I expect WWDC to show us all the new features and a beta released.. Because If I remember correctly when Jobs unveiled DP1 the features he showed off are the ones we have and he said there is many more to come..

Also if Lion where to ship next week wouldn't we have seen a thing from apple saying "Now accepting your apps for Mac App Store on Lion" or something like that
