When will Macbook get the upgrade?

Hi all,

I am on verge of buying a Macbook, but there's this upgrade coming in near future so I am still bit reluctant about it. From what I can understand at least the new graphics chip is major upgrade and as I do not need the laptop right away I'm just pondering whether waiting would be a viable option or not.

Any idea when they might upgrade the Macbook? Any other opinions are also greatly appreciated.

I am also one that is about to get a Macbook sometime soon.
It seems that most hardware issues are gone.

Truth be said, there will be always something new coming out of the
oven every year. The best thing is to buy and use it.
My current laptop is starting to die and I am trying to stretch its life
as much as I can.

I have actually heard the Pros will be updated then, after that the macbooks. I am hoping thats true because I just bought my macbook on Friday. I couldn't wait any longer because my pc laptop was crashing so much. Watch the camera be upgraded then and everything. lol.

Since the current macbooks are only a couple of months old, i'd be guessig new ones won't come until about August or later. Don't wait - just jump in and get one!

When Apple decides we need to know

There is RARELY precise info - ever. All we DO know is that Leopard (OS 10.5) is coming in "Spring". iLife 07 is due too.

There will probably be some sort of "freshening" of the computers at the Leopard time - but know one knows for sure. The Macbooks are the newest in the laptop line - and likely the last to be updated.

Any advice on when upgrades will happen is "pure speculation". Buy what you NEED now. Ask yourself weather you NEED it or WANT it. Computer lust will get you into trouble.

If you don't really need it right now then you'd be fine to wait. But just don't be at all surprised if there isn't any MB update before August or September.

It was about 3 months after the C2D was introduced by Intel that the MB was updated to that processor, so if it's about 3 months this time after Santa Rosa's anticipated debut in mid/late May, that puts the next major MB update into that late August/early September time frame. It'll probably come out just in time for the back to school rush.

Can't you also say that when the updated MBPs come out with Santa Rosa, Penryn, or whatever the latest chip is, that it will have a whole new set of software and/or hardware issues?

Same goes for when the MBP is updated with LED, Flash Drives, or Leopard OS installed.

The first round of Intel-based Macs used well-known production parts from Intel.

The major issues were Apple inclusion of some of their hardware vendors to the mix, their case design, and the OS.

This next round, we will be jumping in on the ground floor of a new laptop chipset -- Intel has been known to have issues with new chipsets and CPUs in the past.

It is a coin flip if there will be any hardware issues not related to Apple's design. Since Apple will diverge from the "standard" Centrino Pro there are likely to be some issues PCs don't have.

Since this will be another revision A product ... you can expect some problems, hopefully most can be fixed with a firmware update and/or OS patch.

Likely there will be a few fit and finish issues related to a new case design, since the factory tends to have some of these problems with every new form factor.

Sounds like I should wait a few month after a new release to get the MBP if I want to avoid problems. For instance, getting a MBP now with C2D seems like the right time since all the bugs appear to be gone from when they first released it.

I think it's silly when people wait for a new version of anything in the electronic world (be it laptop, HDTV or digital camera). There will always be a better version just around the corner! This is a given!

Buy a machine when you REALLY REALLY need it, and don't look back. Otherwise, you'll be upgrading on a yearly basis.

Since Apple use the same hardware as Dell that means, by your logic, that new apples are just manure piles with apple branding that have improved.

I like my macbook but i hate the attitude that a lot of mac users have.

I'm seriously considering getting rid of the macbook simply because of the shear amount of Dell/HP/PC bashing that goes on around here.

According to logic here, if a Dell has a fault, its simply because its a Dell, so its only natural that it does break. But if an Apple breaks down, its because the owner is very unlucky. Does it ever occur to you that Dell sell many times more units than Apple, so obviously the amount of complaints is expected to be higher?

I don't think Dell make bad computers. I just think they're ugly. Thoughtless design couture is so 90s. Dell and a few other PC brands (Packard Bell I think off the top of my head) are just so thoughtless and unattractive in their designs?!

HP are very good machines and they do an ok job with their towers - those slimline ones they made are very nice and people really love them, but they don't make enough models of them.

And that example just surprises me that in todays world where aesthetics play such an important role in our interior design and furnishings, why do PCs continue to be made in the form of large plastic-y boxes. Even the Mac Pro is a well thought out tower!
