I'm surprised to see so little discussion here on the rumor regarding new Mac Pros in August. Granted, it doesnt make much sense to me based on what I've found out through frequenting these forums, but still. Are posters here so jaded by the long wait followed by a lackluster update in 2010 that they wont get excited about rumors anymore?

Maybe when a new rumor appears there will be something to more get excited about. There doesn't seem much to talk about yet, just waiting.

You'll find quite a few comments after the particular MP articles which are all listed in the buyer's guide:

Apple gearing up to launch upgraded Mac Pro with 16 cores

So... what about CPUs? I thought the processors werent due for another 6+ months.

No they are due in Q4. That could be the 2nd of October to the 29th of November. Apple have had them 4 weeks before launch before (2009) so that could quite easily be an August announcement and September release based on that history. Really it's based on whatever Apple have ordered and when Intel can have them available as Apple of course build and box a big portion of the systems they sell, but no one who is going to post on here has any idea of those details.

Are you kidding? Some times I feel like I have to wade through all the threads on new mac pros and new CPUs and when to buy and when not buy.

And with many of us staying with FCP7, we're gonna need all the horsepower we can get.

FCP7 is built on a hobbled 32 bit architecture and no amount of cores will save it. If you want speed you will need to transition to a modern 64 bit NLE: Premiere Pro CS5.5 or Avid.

Note: FCP X is fast and should work well for single seat prosumer setups. IF Apple fixes X it may even be usable for professionals. ??? Probably, most of the Pros will have migrated to Premiere or Avid by that time though.

cheers

Officially due late 2011. These recent rumors (re the MP) are from unreliable sources. I wouldn't hold your breath quite yet. Hoping I'm wrong but I'm still guessing no new MP's until early 2012.
