i just lost a pair of my beats Bluetooth headphone that apple gave out for free about a year ago and I want to get a new pair of the AirPods but I am willing to wait if there is going to be a new generation released within the next 12 months or so. Does anyone think they will come out with a new generation by that time frame?

A good while after they are able to meet the demand they have for the 1st gen.. how often have they updated the EarPods? Will probably be something like that tempo..

The EarPods are a completely different product. This is a wireless Bluetooth product with a chip inside it. I feel like they can update the chip every 12-18 months or so, which would be a much faster cycle than wired EarPods.

But why? They are good as they are. Battery can't get much better, no space for buttons. They could have somewhat better gestures but Apple likes to keep it simple. They could have the ability to measure heart beat and possibly blood oxygenation. But that will add another 100 dollars and cut the battery in half.

Anything can happen in 12 months. That's a fairly large window where anything could potentially release. If you want a pair now, I would suggest purchasing some. They are outstanding and I wouldn't gen concerned with something that has no set time release, being thats how technology is.

What's the point of upgrading the chip though? Maybe when we got two fab nodes further down the road. I'm guessing 24 months per upgrade.

AirPods are apple mouse type devices. I don't think they'll update them just for the sake of it. More chances are that they'll probably update once the technology gets enhanced somehow. Like integration of wireless charging or something.

My thinking is late 2018 is when we might see version two of the AirPods. I think if we do see the second version of the AirPods, they likely be reduced in size and maybe have some form of touch capacitive controls on the AirPods themselves, to make them more independent from using Siri.

I doubt wireless charging, mainly because the battery pack really serves it's purpose for portability and I don't forsee a purpose for wireless charging of the Airpods, unless the iPhone were to introduce this first.

Yeah, the sound quality is mediocre at best and they fall out of your ears if your ear don't fit the rigid earphones.

What about busy outdoor mic sound quality ? Been browsing utube and not much review regarding this

Also some complaint about drop call

Anyone experience this ?

Thx for your confirmation, as long as it's not worse compare to earpod, i should be fine. I tried some random 1 ear bluetooth headset and the call quality is so bad, many people complaining they can't hear me clearly. Tried plantonic bluetooth with wired as well, and the sound is no good.

Yes they sound way better than the standard EarPods. I have a particularly picky friend when we speak on the phone and if I'm on a headset he complains. We spoke one day when I was using the AirPods, he thanked me for using the handset he says its so much clearer and I can really hear you. He couldn't tell I was on the AirPods

If he thanked you, would be great to buy one set for you LOL

They're exactly the same drivers as the EarPods. Exact same sound quality.

Hopefully soon. I got Airpods about a week ago and I am having seriousl problems with them. I can't listen to anything more than 10 minutes without them cutting out completly, one ear not working, or the left and right not syncing. Sure, it's nice that they sync easily across my devices, unlike my other bluetooth headphones. However, they don't work 25% of the time. My other bluetooth headphones i've been using for years have never had a problem. I've had 3 or 4 different bluetooth headphones and these are definately the wost.

I use them every day since I do school online. I'm either watching videos for school or coding with music playing, so in my week of ownership I've been using them a lot. I'm seriously debating returning them. They're THAT bad. This is the only Apple product I've had to contact Apple Help with since using Apple products for 16 years. They're also the worst Apple product I've used in 16 years.

When they work they are VERY nice. However, they don't work very often. The reason I started using Apple producst back in the early 2000s was they 'just worked'. This isn't the case with AirPods.

For the people that are saying "when they meet the demand of the current product"

Not if they take Nintendo's strategy with the NES mini classic :)

Seems like a lot of people disagree that we need second gen AirPods soon. IMO, waterproofing alone is enough to justify an upgrade. Plus, adding noise cancellations would be welcome. Or better sound quality. Or Bluetooth 5.0. There are quite some features that can be added to the second gen AirPods. Hopefully we'll see one sooner than later.
